A summit on amplifying voices of patients, caregivers, and people with disabilities in Inflation Reduction Act drug price negotiations.

On September 18, 2023, Cancer Support Community convened patient and caregiver advocates, health care providers, policy experts, and health care innovators and thought leaders for a roundtable discussion on the need to ensure that patients, people with disabilities, and caregivers have a voice in defining "clinical benefit" for the purpose of Medicare Part D drug price negotiations and future health care policies that impact patients. The meeting featured presentations from Lara Strawbridge, Deputy Director for Policy at the Medicare Drug Rebate and Negotiations Group in the Center for Medicar

Intelligent assistive technologies in rehabilitation for older adults with Alzheimer's disease: systematic review and thematic analysis.

PURPOSE: With population ageing, cognitive and functional impairments associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) place demands on rehabilitation and long term care. Although intelligent assistive technologies (IATs), existing studies remain fragmented in terms of their development, application, and implementation. This study aimed to systematically review evidence on IAT applications in AD rehabilitation and developed, implemented, and evaluated. METHODS: A systematic review was conducted using a predefined search strategy four electronic databases (PubMed, Taylor & Francis Online, Scopus, and

Navigating tensions between community needs and research protocols: Lessons from a disrupted hybrid effectiveness-implementation study.

Effective implementation of evidence-based practices in community settings requires balancing scientific rigor with community partnership pr … delity, internal validity, and data quality. We present our analytical approach building on several implementation science-based frameworks to systematically document research decisions, trade-offs, and gains/losses and share recommendations for responsive, transparent community-partnered research in similar contexts.

Resources to Guide Researchers in the Pursuit of High-Quality Sport Science Research in Women.

Implementing a high-quality approach to the methodological classification and control of the ovarian hormone status of female participants in research is challenging and complex. These complexities have likely hindered the formulation of robust conclusions regarding the effects of the ovarian hormones (estrogen and progesterone) on sport science outcomes. We have therefore developed practical study design tools and resources to aid researchers in the pursuit of high-quality research in women. Specifically, this paper presents a tiered framework outlining varying levels of methodological classi

[Translational Research in Brain Tumors:Development towards Integrated Precision Medicine].

Translational research on malignant brain tumors provide a bidirectional framework that links basic science with clinical practice to advance precision medicine. Despite progress in surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and molecular classification, outcomes remain poor, particularly for diffuse high-grade gliomas, because of treatment resistance, intratumoral heterogeneity, and the limited clinical implementation of molecular insights. Recent advances have highlighted the value of integrating intraoperative molecular diagnostics, molecular imaging, and patient-derived models into a unified tra

Defining Success: Insights From a Random Assignment, Multisite Study of Implementing HIV Prevention, Testing, and Linkage to Care in U.S. Jails and Prisons.

In the emerging field of implementation science, measuring the extent to which a new or modified healthcare program or practice is successfully implemented following an intervention is a critical component in understanding how evidence-based treatments become part of regular practice. This paper is intended to expand our understanding of factors that influence the successful adoption of new or modified HIV services in correctional settings. The nine-site project developed and directed an organization-level intervention designed to implement improvements in preventing, detecting, and treating H…

In recent years, China's new round of institution reform has further optimized the drug regulatory system. Relevant departments and institutions involved in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) regulation have been strengthened. TCM regulatory science, as an emerging interdisciplinary field, has received high regard and experienced rapid development, significantly enhancing TCM regulatory capabilities. Simultaneously, accelerated progress in emerging technologies and production innovation for TCM drug discovery, coupled with the implementation of the National Major Scientific and Technological S

T3 translational science in gastroenterology: getting to best outcomes.

Achieving the best possible outcomes requires the reliable implementation of best practices for every patient. Specifically, optimizing outcomes requires a spectrum of research spanning basic science, drug development, clinical efficacy and effectiveness, health services, quality improvement, and implementation research. However, our rapid increase in understanding the mechanisms of health and disease and their treatment has far outpaced our ability to reliably provide that care, resulting in poor reliability and enormous variation in care. T3 translational research studies attempt to answer q

Perspectives on preparing for long-acting injectable treatment for HIV among consumer, clinical and nonclinical stakeholders: A qualitative study exploring the anticipated challenges and opportunities for implementation in Los Angeles County.

Long-acting injectable (LAI) antiretroviral therapy (ART) is a novel HIV treatment option for people with HIV. The first LAI ART regimen for HIV treatment received regulatory approval in the United States in January 2021. In February 2020, we collected qualitative data from 18 consumers and 23 clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to catalog anticipated individual-consumer, healthcare system, and structural levels barriers and facilitators to LAI ART implementation in Los Angeles County, California. Thematic analysis was guided by the CFIR implementation science model. CFIR constructs of inte…

"It's messy and it's massive": How has the open science debate developed in the post-COVID era?

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the global adoption of open science (OS) practices. However, as the pandemic subsides, the debate around OS continues to evolve. This study investigates how the pandemic has shaped the OS discourse and identifies key issues and challenges. Interviews were conducted with influential actors across the research and publishing communities. The findings show that while many areas of debate remained constant, the ways in which they were discussed exposed underlying systemic challenges, which must be addressed if OS is to progress. These issues included the scope and

Advancing School Behavioral Health Implementation: A Critical Review Using ISF 2.0.

As youth behavioral health needs in the United States continue to grow, schools are increasingly important settings for prevention and service delivery. Yet evidence-based practices (EBPs) are not consistently implemented or sustained at scale. In this article, we present a critical narrative review of dissemination and implementation efforts in school behavioral health (SBH) through the lens of the Interactive Systems Framework for Dissemination and Implementation 2.0 (ISF 2.0). We reviewed and synthesized relevant SBH and implementation science literature to identify promising practices, per…
