Using Supervised Learning Methods to Develop a List of Prescription Medications of Greatest Concern during Pregnancy.

INTRODUCTION: Women and healthcare providers lack adequate information on medication safety during pregnancy. While resources describing fetal risk are available, information is provided in multiple locations, often with subjective assessments of available data. We developed a list of medications of greatest concern during pregnancy to help healthcare providers counsel reproductive-aged and pregnant women. METHODS: Prescription drug labels submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration with information in the Teratogen Information System (TERIS) and/or Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation by

Brief Report: "What Is This PrEP?"-Sources and Accuracy of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Awareness Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women Attending Family Planning and Maternal Child Health Clinics in Western Kenya.

BACKGROUND: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery to adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) is scaling up in sub-Saharan African countries. Understanding how AGYW learn about PrEP is needed to inform programs seeking to reach AGYW with HIV prevention tools. METHODS: AGYW (ages 15-24), attending routine family planning and maternal child health clinics in Kisumu, Kenya, participated in in-depth interviews. AGYW were recruited if they either declined or accepted PrEP when offered that day in clinic or were currently or previously on PrEP. Thematic analysis was used to identify key themes re

Underestimated prevalence of heart failure in hospital inpatients: a comparison of ICD codes and discharge letter information.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure is the predominant cause of hospitalization and amongst the leading causes of death in Germany. However, accurate estimates of prevalence and incidence are lacking. Reported figures originating from different information sources are compromised by factors like economic reasons or documentation quality. METHODS: We implemented a clinical data warehouse that integrates various information sources (structured parameters, plain text, data extracted by natural language processing) and enables reliable approximations to the real number of heart failure patients. Using quasi-holographic backpropagation to understand high-frequency scattering from curved elastic objects in water.

High-frequency scattering from elastic objects in water can include significant contributions from structural guided waves. Those contributions can appear to be radiated from virtual sources within the structure. Quasi-holographic backpropagation (QHBP) limited to supersonic wave numbers can reveal the location in space and time of the virtual sources of scattered sound [Baik, Dudley, and Marston, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 130, 3838-3851 (2011)]. Using this technique, the scatter signals of interest can be isolated, eliminating tank reflections and other anomalies. In the present research, the use o

The good, the bad, and the ugly: A qualitative evaluation of web-based COVID-19 vaccine communication in Canada.

Poor website accessibility and usability with credible website/information sources can create barriers to the equitable uptake of vaccines. Scarce research investigates how intended users interact with and perceive official COVID-19 websites. We examine how people in Canada interact with official COVID-19 vaccine websites and how they use information to inform their choices regarding COVID-19 vaccinations. Using a qualitative design and talk-aloud (also called 'think-aloud') method, we conducted interviews with 50 general population individuals residing in 3 provinces in Canada in July-Decembe…

A Bayesian two-way latent structure model for genomic data integration reveals few pan-genomic cluster subtypes in a breast cancer cohort.

MOTIVATION: Unsupervised clustering is important in disease subtyping, among having other genomic applications. As genomic data has become more multifaceted, how to cluster across data sources for more precise subtyping is an ever more important area of research. Many of the methods proposed so far, including iCluster and Cluster of Cluster Assignments (COCAs), make an unreasonable assumption of a common clustering across all data sources, and those that do not are fewer and tend to be computationally intensive. RESULTS: We propose a Bayesian parametric model for integrative, unsupervised clu
