Mitral valve ring annuloplasty is a surgical gold standard and is used routinely during surgical mitral valve repair of primary or secondary mitral regurgitation. The Millipede IRIS annuloplasty ring is the first transcatheter, transfemoral, transseptal, semirigid, complete annuloplasty ring to be delivered to the mitral valve annulus. Initial results in humans demonstrate that the Millipede IRIS ring is safe, and can effectively reduce the mitral annular diameter leading to a clinically significant reduction or elimination of mitral regurgitation.

AIM: To report the results of whole anterior segment proton beam radiotherapy (PBR) for diffuse iris melanoma.

Metallic iris intra ocular foreign body (IOFBs) with minimal ocular damage pose an interventional challenge. We report safe removal of metallic intraocular foreign bodies embedded on the iris, in three cases by use of intraocular magnets. We present 2 pseudophakic patients who had traumatic episodes that resulted in total expulsion of the iris without disturbing the intraocular lens (IOL). Because of intolerable glare, each patient was managed by reopening the fibrosed capsular bag and implanting 2 multi-finned prosthetic iris devices through a small incision, leaving the IOL in place. Following surgery, glare was no longer present and excellent visual acuity was maintained. We believe these are the first pseudophakic patients with traumatic total aniridia to be managed by this approach.
