Sézary cells were present in a number of less than 1000/mm3 in 52 of 78 cases of various benign diffuse dermatoses and mycosis fungoides. The count was higher than 1000/mm3 in two cases of Sézary syndrome in which the histopathology was that of mycosis fungoides and in six cases of exfoliative erythroderma of undetermined etiology with the histopathology of nonspecific chronic dermatitis. One of these six cases developed palmoplantar keratoderma, but abnormal cells were not present in the tissue. The diagnosis of Sézary syndrome in these cases of exfoliative erythroderma could not be establish

BACKGROUND: During the course of immunodeficiency diseases, severe candidiasis can occur with extensive cutaneous and mucous membrane lesions. However, blood dyscrasias are very rarely revealed by diffuse candidiasis. We report two case of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma revealed by extensive and atypical cutaneous candidiasis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Case No. 1:A 72-year-old woman presented a pruritic rash of circinate, serpiginous patches on glabrous skin and skinfolds with multiple intertrigo and rapidly worsening palmoplantar keratoderma. All mycological skin specimens tested positive for Candida

INTRODUCTION: Keratitis-ichthyosis-deafness (KID) syndrome (MIM#148210) is a rare autosomal dominant genodermatosis caused by monoallelic deleterious variants in the GJB2 gene (MIM*121011). The syndrome is characterized by congenital neurosensory deafness, keratitis, and palmoplantar keratoderma.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report on a 32-year-old Caucasian male with KID syndrome who presented to the emergency department with high fever, severe headache, and chest pain exacerbated by coughing and deep breathing. His symptoms rapidly progressed to sepsis, and diagnostic evaluations confirmed endocar

Ten children with disorders of keratinization (ichthyosis, 4, pityriasis rubra pilaris, 2, psoriasis, 2, and palmoplantar keratoderma, 2) were treated with etretinate for 0.5 to 9.6 years. The children ranged from 1.5 to 15.7 years of age. The total dose of etretinate ranged from 700 to 52,596 mg and the maintenance dose, from 0.21 to 0.86 mg/kg/day. Radiographic skeletal surveys were performed at various stages during treatment or following treatment. Bone abnormalities were found in eight children. Six children had periosteal thickening, two periosteal bone resorption, two osteoporosis, thre

The skin often signals a number of systemic disease, making skin findings of paramount significance. Paraneoplastic diseases and collagen vascular diseases are vitally important illnesses. Paraneoplastic diseases and collagen vascular diseases may also occur with many different acral skin findings. Paraneoplastic skin diseases, associated with some cancers, are by definition nonmalignant skin disorders. These diseases can occur before, simultaneously, or after the diagnosis of cancer. Acral paraneoplastic diseases include acanthosis nigricans maligna, acquired pachydermatoglyphia, acrokeratosi

Cole disease is a rare autosomal dominant genodermatosis with only five cases published in literature since its first description in 1976. We report a case of a 3-year-old boy of Italian ancestry who presented with hypopigmented skin patches on the upper extremities and multiple yellowish, firm papules and small plaques on his palms and soles. There were similar findings in the family, extending back at least four generations. Whole exome sequence analysis revealed a novel variant of the ENPP1 gene mutation, which has not been previously reported to be associated with Cole disease. Although th

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a benign histiocytic tumor predominantly occurring in children as yellowish papules on the head and trunk. Presentations on the volar surfaces are rare and may cause diagnostic confusion with pyogenic granuloma, eccrine poroma and digital fibrokeratoma. We report two patients with unusual presentations of solitary juvenile xanthogranuloma on the palm or sole. Both had lesions lacking the classic yellowish color and demonstrating a well-defined, peripheral hyperkeratotic rim. Histopathological evaluation revealed prominent orthokeratosis corresponding to the rim. Add

We report on three novel (IVS2+1G>A splice site, c.1066G>T, and c.1039G>T, and one previously reported (c.637G>A) WNT10A mutations in three patients affected with odonto-onycho-dermal dysplasia (OODD; OMIM 275980). OODD is a rare form of autosomal recessive ectodermal dysplasia involving hair, teeth, nails, and skin, characterized by hypodontia (tooth agenesis), smooth tongue with marked reduction of filiform and fungiform papillae, nail dysplasia, dry skin, palmoplantar keratoderma, and hyperhidrosis of palms and soles. The novel IVS+1G>A splice site mutation is predicted to cause significant

We report what we believe to be a novel skin manifestation of dioxin intoxication. A 30-year-old woman with 2,3,7, 8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin levels of 144,000 pg g-1 blood fat presented with severe chloracne that affected the entire integument. She also exhibited acral granuloma annulare-like lesions and distal onycholysis and, at a later time point, showed signs of hypertrichosis, as well as brownish-grey hyperpigmentation of the face. In addition, she developed punctate keratoderma-like lesions on the palms and soles. These lesions were negative for human papillomavirus and histologicall

INTRODUCTION: A 71-year-old man consulted because he could not walk due to spots of hyperalgic, invalidating plantar keratodermia. A nearly identical symptomatology was observed in several members of the family suggesting an autosomal dominant hereditary disease due to painful callosities as described by Roth in 1978.
CASE REPORT: The patient had pachyonychia on all fingers and toes, only the ring fingers and the fifth toes were not involved. Multiple epidermoid follicular cysts were also found on the trunk suggesting the diagnosis of type II hereditary pachyonychia or Jackson-Lawler disease.

Analysis of linkage between the gene of autosomal dominant tylosis and some loci with RFLP in 1, 14 and 17 chromosomes in the pedigree with this disorder was performed. A positive load score (0.729 at 0-0.20) for tylosis and D17S14 locus (DNA probe pTHH-59) was found.

A 56-year-old female patient had suffered from isolated, unclassified palmoplantar keratosis since childhood. During the climacteric horny papules appeared for the first time on the extremities and trunk. Histologically, the efflorescences on the body and the palmoplantar keratosis were classifiable as keratosis follicularis. Predilection sites of Darier's disease were spared. Altogether, the usual pattern of involvement was reversed.

Congenital ectodermal dysplasia is a group of familial disorders that affect tissues and organs of ectodermal origin to varying degrees. Our patient with classical X-linked anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (AED) showed unusual skin manifestations including cafe-au-lait spots on the face, neck, buttock, and lumbo-sacral region; depigmentation of mucous membrane of the lower lip, buccal cavity, and left arm; absence of tragii; plantar keratoderma; and kyphosis of lower cervical and upper thoracic spines which have not been previously reported in the world literature.

We describe 3 children with pustulosis palmaris et plantaris associated with chronic recurrent (multifocal) osteomyelitis, located in the clavicle in 2 patients, and in the distal fibula as well as in several metatarsals in the third. The first 2 children also developed inflammatory sacroiliitis, one with chronic peripheral polyarthritis. These 3 cases represent the arthrosteitis and chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis syndrome associated with palmoplantar pustulosis.
