[Cerebellar ferroptosis of hypertension mice following lead exposure].

OBJECTIVE: Exploring the changes in cerebellar ferroptosis in hypertensive mice after lead exposure. METHODS: Twenty-five healthy C57 male mice were selected to construct a hypertensive model by intraperitoneal injection of angiotensin II(Ang II) at a concentration of 0.05 mg/kg for 7 consecutive days. After a systolic blood pressure of 140 mmHg, 20 hypertensive mice were randomly divided into a hypertensive control group and a hypertensive lead exposure group. Twenty C57 mice with normal blood pressure were randomly divided into a blood pressure normal control group and a blood pressure norm…

Decompressive craniectomy incisions: all roads lead to bone.

INTRODUCTION: Decompressive craniectomy and craniotomy are among the most common procedures in Neurosurgery. In recent years, increased attention has focused on the relationships between incision type, extent of decompression, vascular supply to the scalp, cosmetic outcomes, and complications. Here, we review the current literature on scalp incisions for large unilateral front-temporo-parietal craniotomies and craniectomies. METHODS: Publications in the past 50 years on scalp incisions used for front-temporo-parietal craniectomies/craniotomies were reviewed. Only full texts were considered in

Photovoltaic effect in methylammonium lead triiodide single crystal.

Due to the crystalline acentricity leading to the bulk photovoltaic effect (PV) the ferroelectrics (FEs) are considered as important candidates for creation of the PV cells overcoming the Shockley-Queisser limit of semiconductors. However, this research direction still requires more investigations to develop reliable pathways for PV efficiency optimization. The recent progress in the power conversion efficiency of the cells based on the organic-based compounds such as CH3NH3PbI3perovskite attracted much attention of the scientists. Unfortunately, manufacturing of these multilayer cells implies…

Phytochemicals as Potential Lead Molecules against Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most prevalent form of liver cancer, accounting for 85-90% of liver cancer cases and is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. The major risk factors for HCC include hepatitis C and B viral infections, along with chronic liver diseases, such as cirrhosis, fibrosis, and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis associated with metabolic syndrome. Despite the advancements in modern medicine, there is a continuous rise in the annual global incidence rate of HCC, and it is estimated to reach >1 million cases by 2025. Emerging research in phytomedicine and …

Spin-photogalvanic effect in chiral lead halide perovskites.

Low-temperature solution-made chiral lead halide perovskites (LHPs) have spontaneous Bychkov-Rashba spin orbit coupling (SOC) and chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) qualities. Their coexistence may give rise to considerable spin and charge conversion capabilities for spin-orbitronic applications. In this study, we demonstrate the spin-photogalvanic effect for (R-MBA)2PbI4 and (S-MBA)2PbI4 polycrystalline film-based lateral devices (100 μm channel length). The light helicity dependence of the short-circuit photocurrent exhibits the circular photogalvanic effect (CPGE) and linear photogalvan…

Disparities in transvenous lead extraction in young adults.

Adults with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) implanted at an early age constitute a specific group of patients undergoing transvenous lead extraction (TLE). The aim of this study is to assess safety and effectiveness of TLE in young adults. A comparative analysis of two groups of patients undergoing transvenous lead extraction was performed: 126 adults who were 19-29 years old at their first CIED implantation (early adulthood) and 2659 adults who were > 40 years of age at first CIED implantation and < 80 years of age at the time of TLE (middle-age/older adulthood). CIED-dependent…

Intraoral pencil core granuloma with retained pencil lead.

Foreign body impactions can be frequently seen in childhood as children have a habit of putting different objects in the mouth. These impacted foreign bodies if not removed timely, at times can lead to severe reactions leading to granuloma formation. A simple injury, if ignored, can result in severe damage to oral tissue and even loss of the permanent tooth. Therefore, all penetrating injuries should be carefully assessed and treated timely. This study describes a rarest intraoral case of pencil core granuloma with retained graphite lead inside it that led to severe tissue reactions. Pencil co…

Abnormality classification from electrocardiograms with various lead combinations.

Objective. As cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of death, early and accurate diagnosis of cardiac abnormalities for a lower cost becomes particularly important. Given electrocardiogram (ECG) datasets from multiple sources, there exist many challenges to the development of generalized models that can identify multiple types of cardiac abnormalities from both 12-lead ECG signals and reduced-lead ECG signals. In this study, our objective is to build robust models that can accurately classify 30 types of abnormalities from various lead combinations of ECG signals.Approach. Given the chal…

Severe Tricuspid Stenosis Secondary to Permanent Pacemaker Lead.

Tricuspid stenosis (TS) is a rare valvular abnormality and generally associated with mitral stenosis in cases of rheumatic heart disease. TS is now frequently being described in the setting of permanent pacemaker leads, either with or without the presence of infective endocarditis. We describe a case of a female with TS secondary to permanent pacemaker leads in the absence of infective endocarditis being managed during the pre-conception period. She initially had a balloon valvuloplasty done for moderate to severe TS and subsequently conceived and delivered without complications. However, upon…
