To determine the frequency of hormonal abnormalities in a Nigerian population of male partners of infertile relationships, serum levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin, and testosterone were estimated using radioimmunoassay techniques in 454 oligo/azoospermic male partners of infertile marriages. The matrimonial stability of 142 families where a child with neural tube malformation (mostly spina bifida) was born between 1964 and 1966, including 56 families with a surviving spina bifida child, was examined in January 1976. METHODS: In this case-control study, 97 patients with congenital ptosis and 97 participants as the control group were included.
