Wealth and antenatal care use: implications for maternal health care utilisation in Ghana.

The study investigates the effect of wealth on maternal health care utilization in Ghana via its effect on Antenatal care use. Prior to the introduction of the policy, studies found wealth to have a positive and significant influ…

The cases and the non-cases as determined by a two-stage screening of psychopathology and clinical interview showed that anxiety states and depressive neurosis were the main psychiatric disorders amongst the cohort. In the comparison of various sociodemographic and obstetric variable between the two sub-groups, single (unmarried) status was found to be the only differentiating variable. Associations among maternal prenatal depression, maternal autism traits, and child autism traits in the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcome (ECHO) program.

BACKGROUND: Maternal depression during pregnancy has been associated with increased risk of offspring autism spectrum disorder (ASD) - a highly heritable neurodevelopmental disorder. However, no study to date has taken into account maternal ASD traits in the association between maternal prenatal depression and child ASD. METHODS: This study utilized data from the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) consortium-a large, national prospective longitudinal study-to examine maternal ASD traits as a covariate and moderator in the association between maternal prenatal depression

Maternal and Fetal Outcomes After Lamotrigine Use in Pregnancy: A Retrospective Analysis from an Urban Maternal Mental Health Centre in New Zealand.

INTRODUCTION: Pregnancy is a vulnerable period for recurrence of bipolar disorder. Discontinuation of mood stabilisers during pregnancy and the postpartum period can significantly increase the risk of recurrence of bipolar disorder. Lamotrigine is an anti-epileptic drug that has been approved for the maintenance treatment of bipolar disorder. Epilepsy literature has indicated that lamotrigine has a reassuring safety profile in pregnancy but there is little information on its effectiveness and safety in pregnant women with mental disorders. METHOD: We conducted a retrospective review of all pr

Socioeconomic inequality in the completion of the continuum of care for maternal, newborn, and child health in Malawi.

BACKGROUND: Despite improvements in maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) service coverage in Malawi, completion of the continuum of care (CoC) remains low and unequally distributed across socioeconomic groups. This study quantified socioeconomic inequality in MNCH CoC completion and its determinants. METHODS: We analyzed pooled data from the 2010, 2015-16, and 2024 Malawi Demographic and Health Surveys, including 18,741 women with a live birth; analytic samples were 15,552 women for maternal CoC and 7,625 children aged 12-23 months for full CoC. Young mothers' experiences of regional maternity health care in Tasmania: A qualitative study.

PROBLEM/BACKGROUND: Young women under 24 are still largely missing from research on maternity care, especially those living in regional communities. This study will explore how young women aged 15-24 in Tasmania, Australia, access and receive maternity care. METHODS: This descriptive qualitative study drew on 26 one-on-one interviews and two focus groups with 7 women to explore the experiences of 32 young women aged 15-24 years in accessing

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH CARE IN THE MEMBER STATES OF THE EUROPEAN UNION.

The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the legal provision of maternal and child health care in the member states of the European Union (EU). The relevance of the study lies in the analysis of modern European approaches to the regulation of maternal and child health care, as well as in determining the possibilities of adapting positive experience for states that have embarked on the path of European integration. The methodological basis of the study is a complex of general scientific and special legal methods. As a result of the study, it has been established that the legal regula

Impacts of religious leader training on maternal and child health in underserved communities of Bangladesh.

BACKGROUND: Religious leaders are trusted in Bangladesh and can promote maternal and child health (MCH)in underserved communities. Maternal mental health and child development before and after an extreme cyclone in Malawi.

BACKGROUND: Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of cyclones and hurricanes, with the most severe impact occurring in low-resource settings. Women and children are among the most vulnerable to adverse health impacts of these severe weather events. Despite this, there is limited data on how cyclones and hurricanes impact maternal mental health or child development in low-resource settings. METHODS: We recruited pregnant women and their newborns into a prospective cohort study between 2018 and 2022 in Blantyre, Malawi and assessed maternal mental health, child development, an

This study examined experiences of and perspectives on equitable access to MNH care among women with disabilities in Mogadishu, Somalia. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive study was conducted in Mogadishu between July and September 2024. W

U.S. Immigration Policy Environment Contributions to Maternal and Child Health in the Latino Population.

Latino families in the United States experience persistent maternal and child health (MCH) inequities driven by a fragmented immigration and public benefits policy environment rather than inherent health differences. Although most Latino children are U.S.-born citizens, many live in mixed-status families in which immigration status determines eligibility for health care, nutrition assistance, and other essential services. This narrative policy review examines U.S. immigration and public benefit policies from 1965 to 2025 to assess how eligibility rules, enforcement practices, and policy instab

Gestational constipation and the gut microbiota: mechanisms, interventions, and implications for maternal and offspring health.

Gestational constipation affects up to 40% of pregnant women, yet remains underappreciated as a clinical entity with implications beyond maternal discomfort. This review synthesizes current evidence on the intricate relationships between pregnancy-associated constipation, gut microbiota dynamics, and perinatal health outcomes. Pregnancy induces profound remodeling of the maternal gut ecosystem-characterized by reduced alpha diversity, expansion of Actinomycetota and Pseudomonadota, and increased Bifidobacterium-driven by hormonal, immunological, and dietary factors. When perturbed, these physi
