In recent years, the diagnosis and management of leptomeningeal carcinomatosis have gained increased attention as patients with neoplasms live longer and the condition becomes more common. Conclusive hallmarks of this disease have yet to be identified. We report and discuss a case of massive invasion of the cerebral leptomeninges by neoplastic cells from a malignant melanoma in a shoulder. Symptoms of cerebral dysfunction were the first indication of neoplasm. The onset of symptoms, magnetic resonance imaging, and patient death all occurred within a brief time span. To our knowledge, this is t

Records of 50 dogs with signs of retrobulbar disease that had ultrasonography and diagnosis based on results of cytopathology or histopathology were reviewed retrospectively. Abnormalities were identified ultrasonographically in 43 (86%) dogs. Mass effect was identified in 42% of dogs with neoplasia and 30% of dogs with abscess. Ten of 11 (91%) orbital bone lesions were in dogs with retrobulbar neoplasia. A cavitary lesion was recognized ultrasonographically in 75% of dogs with salivary mucocele and 50% of dogs with retrobulbar abscess. Neoplasms occurred predominantly on the ventral or medial

Neoplasms consisting of different cell lineages within a single skin specimen are rare, yet well documented in the literature. However, to date, there appears to be no report of invasive melanoma arising directly from the passenger melanocytes of a basal cell carcinoma (BCC). We present a case of a 91-year-old male with a suspicious lesion on the ear. Histopathology and immunohistochemical staining revealed BCC closely intertwined with invasive melanoma that exhibited foci of chondroid differentiation. The melanoma appeared to arise from the benign-appearing passenger melanocytes of the BCC an

Endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR) has emerged as a minimally invasive treatment for small gastrointestinal subepithelial neoplasms (SETs). In particular, the development of novel closure methods such as clip-line and various endoscopic suturing techniques has enabled the secure closure of any resultant defects. During the Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy session at the Endoscopic Forum Japan 2025, we summarized the current status of EFTR for SETs and discussed future clinical applications for epithelial neoplasms from oncological and technical perspectives. Although predominantly docume

BACKGROUND: Neuroendocrine neoplasms commonly arise in the midgut, lungs, or pancreas, while primary ovarian neuroendocrine neoplasms are rare and can present with carcinoid syndrome and carcinoid heart disease even in the absence of hepatic metastases.
CASE REPORT: A 70-year-old female with coronary artery disease presented with 3 months of dyspnea, leg edema, diarrhea, and facial flushing. Examination suggested right-sided heart failure with a palpable lower abdominal mass. Her 24-hour urinary 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid level was markedly elevated (106.0 mg), and serum chromogranin A was al

The thyroid differentiation score (TDS), calculated on the expression levels of 16 thyroid function genes, was reported to be lower in BRAF-like than in RAS-like papillary thyroid cancers, but scanty data are available in either other malignant histotypes or in benign thyroid nodules. The aims of the present study were to investigate the clinical relevance of the TDS in a large series of thyroid neoplasms, and its possible role in the differential diagnosis of cytologically indeterminate nodules. The TDS was calculated in 126 differentiated, 20 undifferentiated, 9 non-invasive follicular thyro

BACKGROUND: Intraductal tubular papillary neoplasm (ITPN) displays a very rare subtype of epithelial neoplasms of the pancreas. ITPN is characterized by intraductal tubulopapillary growth and cellular dysplasia. In contrast to intraductal papillary neoplasm (IPMN) no overt epithelial mucin production is observed. To date, little is known about ITPN and particularly about pancreatic cancer arising in this tumor entity.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 68-year-old male presented at our hospital with a distal bile duct occlusion suspicious for adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic head. Preoperative staging reve

Biliary papillary neoplasia of the liver characterized by intraductal papillary growth of neoplastic biliary epithelia with a fine fibrovascular stalk has been sporadically reported, and includes intraductal growing cholangiocarcinoma and biliary papillomatosis. In addition, biliary papillary dysplasia and in situ and microinvasive carcinoma with papillary configuration reported in hepatolithiasis and in other chronic biliary diseases, could be included in this category. Usually, they arise in the intrahepatic large bile ducts, and the neoplastic and non-neoplastic parts of the intrahepatic bi

BACKGROUND: The procedure of total duodenum-preserving pancreatic head resection (DPPHRt) has been reported frequently, but rare in minimally invasive procedure, especially robotic-assisted operation. Here we share our experience and analyze the clinical outcomes of minimally invasive DPPHRt in the treatment of benign lesions or low-grade malignant tumors of the pancreatic head in this study.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From October 2016 to January 2022, three patients received robot-assisted DPPHRt(RA-DPPHRt), and seventeen patients received laparoscopic DPPHRt(LDPPHRt). Data were retrospectively

Minimally invasive anatomical sublobar resections have gained relevance in recent years mainly due to advances in imaging techniques, screening programs and the increase in second neoplasms. Accurate identification of the segmental or subsegmental bronchus is vital to guarantee optimal results in segmentectomies and subsegmentectomies. Given the complexity and the possibility of anatomical variations, several authors have published different methods to identify the target bronchus. However, these methods have certain limitations. This article describes a new rapid and effective technique, with

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is an uncommon but distinctive tumor. The lesion is defined as an intra-epidermal neoplasm. The lesion may be accompanied by an invasive adenocarcinoma or in situ adenocarcinoma of apocrine glands. Visceral carcinoma may also coexist or develop. Definitive diagnosis requires biopsy of the lesion and immunohistochemical staining. In most cases of noninvasive or minimally invasive EMPD, surgical resection with clear margins and careful follow-up are recommended, since the recurrence rate is high. We review the literature and report two cases of EMPD, one invol

Mutations in RAS proto-oncogenes (NRAS, HRAS, KRAS) are common in thyroid nodules, though their prognostic significance remains unclear. This retrospective study analyzed 354 thyroid nodules from 346 patients (2018-2023) to investigate the clinical and pathological implications of isolated RAS mutations and RAS with co-occurring genetic alterations. Isolated RAS mutations were found in 41.0% (n = 145), while 54.8% (n = 194) had RAS with additional molecular alterations; NRAS was the most frequent subtype (62.1%). Among co-occurring mutations, EIF1AX (46.7%) and TERT (26.7%) were the most commo

The aim of the present study was to analyze and summarize the clinicopathological characteristics and factors affecting prognosis for patients with gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms (GINENs). Retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinicopathological data of 74 patients who were diagnosed with GINEN, and immunohistochemical methods were used to detect the expression levels of relevant markers [synaptophysin (Syn), chromogranin A (CgA) and Ki-67]. Among the 74 cases with GINEN, there were 39 males and 35 females, with an average age of 56.9 years. There were 32 neoplasms in the rec

BACKGROUND: Intraductal papillary mucinous tumor (IPMT) of the pancreas is a recently proposed pancreatic tumor entity with a peculiar clinical and pathologic profile. It presents with symptoms that are mostly attributed to the mass effect of the tumor. However, a long history of diabetes mellitus and/or chronic pancreatitis is usually noted. It is thought that IPMT has better prognosis than the usual pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and its early identification is important. On imaging studies these neoplasms appear usually as multiloculated, cystic tumors that cannot be easily differentiated

A desmoid tumor is a rare neoplasm of soft tissues and, although benign, is locally invasive and tends to recur. We report a case of suspected recurrence of a supraclavicular desmoid tumor that had been resected 2 years earlier. Computed tomography suggested the correct diagnosis of a pseudoaneurysm of a venous graft that had been placed during the resection.

Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) of the uterus are rare mesenchymal neoplasms characterized by myogenic and melanocytic differentiation. These tumors can mimic other uterine mesenchymal tumors in their clinical presentation and morphology. We report a case of a 58-year-old woman who presented with abnormal uterine bleeding. Initial imaging revealed an endometrial polyp, which was later diagnosed as a leiomyoma on excision biopsy. A subsequent hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy revealed a uterine neoplasm composed of spindled to epithelioid cells with low-grade cytologic at

The third edition of The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology includes category IV, follicular neoplasm (FN), which is used to classify fine-needle aspirates of thyroid nodules that may correspond to invasive follicular-derived neoplasia other than papillary thyroid carcinoma. This diagnosis is infrequently rendered, and may represent a challenge for pathologists. This review presents a practical approach to FN and its subtype oncocytic follicular neoplasm (OFN). First, minimal criteria for the diagnosis must be achieved, namely sufficient cellularity, architectural features con

A prevalent autoimmune condition affecting the thyroid gland known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is linked to a higher chance of developing thyroid cancer, especially papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and primary thyroid mucosal-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. It is extremely rare for follicular thyroid neoplasms whether adenoma or carcinoma to develop in conjunction with Hashimoto's disease. In this case report, a left thyroid lobe large nodule was diagnosed by US as TIRAD IV. Cytology using fine-needle aspiration was done, and the case was designated as Thy3f (suspicious of follicular
