Eye-Sparing Treatment for Diffuse Invasive Conjunctival Melanoma.

The management of patients with diffuse invasive conjunctival melanoma focuses on local tumor control and screening for metastasis. Despite the lack of consensus on the benefit of sentinel lymph node biopsy for these neoplasms, the information obtained by histopathology is useful for tumor staging and treatment planning. Due to the lack of evidence of survival improvement, orbital exenteration is being performed with diminishing frequency. We describe a patient with diffuse invasive conjunctival melanoma and lymph node involvement treated by tumor debulking, brachytherapy (custom unshielded ra

Tumor-to-tumor metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma into a spinal intradural solitary fibrous tumor: a case report.

Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms commonly involving visceral or parietal pleura. We present the first report of tumor-to-tumor metastasis involving a pulmonary adenocarcinoma donor and an intradural SFT recipient. The patient presented with a 1 year history of diffuse back pain. A spinal intradural contrast-enhancing mass at the T9/10 level and a tumor of the lung were diagnosed radiologically. Bronchoscopic biopsy confirmed pulmonary adenocarcinoma in the right upper lung lobe. Due to deteriorating neurological status with conus medullaris syndrome, we performed a

Incidence and pathomorphology of uterine tumours in the cow.

A statistical and pathological study on uterine tumours during the examination of 1489 female bovines at slaughter was carried out. A 0.4% (n = 6) incidence of uterine neoplasms, being 50% adenocarcinomas and the other 50% leiomyomas, was diagnosed. With regard to age groups, tumours were more frequent in the 11-15-year-old group. Two animals affected by adenocarcinoma were not fertile and they had ovarian metastasis that, to the author's knowledge, has been cited as extremely rare in cows. An ultrastructural study of these carcinomas and their metastasis was also made. Two leiomyomas were int

Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia associated with a normal pregnancy with no evidence of uterine primary lesion.

Gestational trophoblastic tumours are neoplasms that derive from trophoblastic tissue; therefore, their occurrence is generally intrauterine. We report the case of a 27-year-old woman with an ovarian tumour that arose during pregnancy. The patient did not have postpartum checkups and came to the clinic after eighteen months, presenting multiple lymphadenopathy predominantly in the cervical region, one of which was biopsied. In the microscopic study, the presence of syncytiotrophoblast-like cells supported the diagnosis of a metastasis of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia. The serum levels of

Solitary metastasis from occult follicular carcinoma of the thyroid mimicking trigeminal neurinoma--case report.

A 50-year-old woman presented with an extremely uncommon case of solitary metastasis from follicular carcinoma of the thyroid, which presented clinically as trigeminal neurinoma. Neuroimaging detected a tumor in the right petrous apex, which was removed surgically. Histological examination showed metastatic follicular carcinoma of the thyroid. However, no primary tumor was detected by various investigations. The tumor recurred twice, and was treated surgically both times. The patient finally agreed to adjuvant therapy for the suspected primary. Radiotherapy was performed followed by complete t

Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma: primary intracranial lesion with thoracic spine metastasis and a malignant course. Illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma (AFH) is an exceptionally rare soft tissue neoplasm. This tumor primarily presents as a benign soft tissue lesion in children with an average age of 14 years. The standard treatment regimen is wide local excision with interval follow-up. However, newer reports have demonstrated malignant potential with the possibility of intracranial metastasis. OBSERVATIONS: A 45-year-old male with no soft tissue primary tumor presented with a primary intracranial lesion and thoracic spine metastasis refractory to chemotherapy and radiation treatment. LESSONS: Th

Cutaneous Metastasis Leading to the Diagnosis of Carcinoma of the Prostate: A Rare Case Report and Review of Literature.

Prostate adenocarcinoma is a common urologic malignant neoplasm in man. Distant cutaneous metastases (CMs) of prostate carcinoma are extremely rare with a reported incidence of 0.36% and usually they occur late. Clinically, cutaneous metastasis of prostate carcinoma can mimic other skin conditions such as cellulitis, sebaceous cyst, zosteriform lesions, telangectasias, and more, resulting in a poor recognition. Few cases of true cutaneous metastatic prostate carcinoma exist in the literature. We present a case, where the first sign of carcinoma of the prostate was CM over the anterior abdomina

Cutaneous metastasis from gastric glomus tumour.

A 58-year-old man presented with a 4-month history of a rapidly enlarging asymptomatic tumour on the scalp vertex. Six years earlier, the patient had undergone subtotal gastrectomy for a presumed gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST). The tumour extended to the peritoneal surfaces, and foci of vascular invasion were also seen. No adjuvant treatment was given. Owing to diagnostic difficulties with the scalp tumour, a comparison was made with the previous gastric neoplasm. Both had features consistent with glomus tumour, which suggested a revised diagnosis of primary malignant gastric glomus tu

Rhabdoid tumor of the thyroid gland: a variant of anaplastic carcinoma.

Rhabdoid tumor of the thyroid gland is a very rare neoplasm, characterized by significant metastatic potential. All of the 6 cases reported in the recent literature had poor outcomes. We report an additional case involving, to our knowledge, the oldest patient reported so far. A 67-year-old woman had a nodular goiter for all of her adult life and presented with a rapidly growing mass in the right lobe. Histologic examination showed a highly cellular neoplasm with a solid infiltrative growth pattern. Extracapsular invasion was evident. Rhabdoid cells were large, with abundant cytoplasm, eosinop

68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT Detection of Peritoneal Metastases From a Rare Uterine Tumor Resembling Ovarian Sex-cord Tumor.

Uterine tumor resembling ovarian sex-cord tumor (UTROSCT) is an extremely rare uterine stromal neoplasm of uncertain origin that accounts for less than 0.5% of uterine malignancies. Here, we report, using MRI, 18F-FDG, and 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT, the imaging findings for peritoneal metastatic lesions from postoperative UTROSCT in a 58-year-old woman. The peritoneal lesions showed only mild uptake on 18F-FDG PET/CT. Subsequent 68Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT revealed intense tracer uptake in the lesions, indicating the potential value of this modality for detecting recurrence and metastasis in UTROSCT.

Spontaneous T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma in a young ICR mouse: a case report.

Lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL) is an aggressive neoplasm characterized by the proliferation of undifferentiated lymphocytes. It primarily spreads to immune organs such as the thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow, and liver. Although well-documented in humans, spontaneous LBL cases in laboratory animals are exceedingly rare. This study reports a case of T cell-derived LBL in a young adult ICR mouse, notably without bone marrow metastasis. This case provides valuable insights into the spontaneous occurrence of LBL in laboratory rodents by contributing to comparative oncology and preclinical re

Multifocal Recurrent Microcystic Adnexal Carcinoma.

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) is a rare and locally aggressive neoplasm with preponderance for local recurrence but rarely nodal or distant metastasis. A 38-year-old male was referred to our clinic for definitive treatment of known recurrent and concern for multifocal MAC from previous biopsy. The patient was treated with modified Mohs and reconstruction with an anterolateral thigh (ALT) free flap for tissue coverage. This case highlights the rare nature of multifocal MAC, treatment challenges of Mohs clearance versus wide local excision, and reconstructive challenge associated with larg

Keratoacanthoma-like nodules as first manifestation of metastatic epithelioid trophoblastic tumor.

Cutaneous metastases are rarely the initial manifestation of a previously undiagnosed malignancy and keratoacanthoma-like lesions are a notoriously unusual presentation pattern of cutaneous dissemination of a primary tumor. Herein, we report a 40-year-old woman presenting to our dermatology department with multiple keratoacanthoma-like scalp nodules. Subsequent investigation determined it to be the first manifestation of a disseminated endometrial epithelioid trophoblastic tumor, eventually causing the patient's death. Epithelioid trophoblastic tumor, a rare form of gestational trophoblastic d

Massive Gastrointestinal Bleeding from Choriocarcinoma of the Ovary.

Choriocarcinoma of the ovary is a rare neoplasm and tends to metastasize early to involve the lungs, brain, and liver. Metastasis to the gastrointestinal tract is rare. We report the case of a young lady, who presented with life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeding, secondary to jejunal involvement. The site of bleeding was localized using a computed tomography angiogram following inconclusive upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies. The bleeding jejunal segment was resected and the metastatic disease responded to combination chemotherapy. Metastatic choriocarcinoma of the ovary should b

Juvenile granulosa cell tumor associated with Ollier disease.

Juvenile granulosa cell tumor (JGCT) is a rare neoplasm of childhood. Interestingly, it is known to be associated with Ollier disease, which is a rare bone disease characterized by multiple enchondromatosis. There is paucity of literature about the co-occurence of these two conditions. However, this association is noteworthy because these two conditions share a common pathogenesis. We report a case of JGCT in a 2.5-year-old female child in which multiple enchondromas mimicking bony metastasis were an incidental finding during routine workup for tumor staging, thus leading to a diagnosis of Oll

Solitary breast cancer metastasis to the esophagus - a multimodal diagnostic approach.

We present a case of late breast cancer metastasis over 15 years since the initial diagnosis which was highly unusual because of its solitary aspect with no other evidence of the disease and its uncommon localization in the esophagus. With a history of breast cancer, several differential diagnoses for suspicious space-occupying masses need to be considered, like radiation-induced cancer or multiple neoplasm. A multimodal diagnostic approach can lead to the correct diagnosis. Endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) including EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA), CT and PET/CT findings are pro

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma of the ethmoid and paranasal sinus: A rare neoplasm.

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma (SNTCS) is a very rare and aggressive malignant neoplasm histologically characterized by the combination of one or many components of epithelial and mesenchymal elements. Here, we report a SNTCS in a 60-year-old man involving posterior nasal and nasopharyngeal wall extending into left ethmoidal sinus. The patient complained of bleeding from nose, nasal obstruction, and generalized weakness for last two months. Tumor was completely removed by Caldwell-Luc operation and postoperative radiation therapy was given. The follow-up of the patient for two years has shown

[Chondrosarcomas of the larynx and sinus maxillaris--review of literature and report of three cases].

Chondrosarcoma is a very rare neoplasm in the head and neck region. This region is associated with favourable prognosis. Only 340 cases of chondrosarcoma of the larynx and nearly 300 of sinus maxillaris have been reported in this localization. The most reasonable treatment is radical surgery. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are of little value. Without metastasis the long term prognosis is excellent. Clinical, pathologic and radiologic characterities of these tumors are described and review of the literature is presented. The authors present two cases chondrosarcoma of the larynx and one case ch

[A case of widespread ileal stenosis caused by metastatic disseminated peritoneal carcinomatosis from lung cancer resected 8 years previously].

A 46-year-old man was admitted because of ileus. He had undergone an operation for lung carcinoma (stage IA) 8 years previously in another hospital. Because small bowel enema study showed widespread stricture of the ileum, we performed an operation. During the operation we diagnosed metastatic small bowel carcinoma. Because the resected sample of the small bowel carcinoma was similar to the lung carcinoma pathologically and detailed examination after the operation showed no other neoplasm, we considered this case to be small bowel metastasis of the lung carcinoma resected 8 years previously.
