The syndrome of familial adenomatous polyposis has a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations including adenomatous polyps of the colon and small bowel, adenocarcinoma of ampulla of Vater, tumors of the central nervous system, bone lesions, and various soft tissue tumors. The one common denominator is colonic polyposis. It is not known whether this phenotypic heterogeneity is due to various genotypes, or if the entire clinical spectrum is due to one genetic defect. No aetiological factors are at present known in the pathogenesis of liposarcomas. Benign lipomatous disorders, such as lipomas and lipomatosis, generally do not predispose to the development of liposarcomas. A case is presented of a patient with multicentric retroperitoneal liposarcomas, associated with retroperitoneal lipomatosis and preceded by a long history of multiple subcutaneous lipomas. In the literature this combination has not been described. This rare combination of lipomatous disorders seems to indicate a common derangement of adipose tissue.

This study was undertaken in 69 patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the upper urinary tract. In 31, bladder tumor was diagnosed prior to (35.5%), concomitant with (38.5%), and after treatment of the upper urothelial tumor. Localization in the bladder more commonly involved the ipsilateral left or right lateral aspect and less frequently involved the trigone. Generalized, nodular dermatofibrosis with coexisting bilateral renal cystadenocarcinomas was diagnosed in a 6-year-old male German Shepherd Dog. A 54-year-old man was operated on for multiple gastric carcinoma. A carcinoid tumor was found within Borrmann 3 type adenocarcinoma (well-differentiated) through examination of the resected stomach. Another carcinoma was II c type, moderately differentiated. The carcinoid seemed to be so-called submucosal tumor on the cut surface. Histologically, the carcinoid showed a less-differentiated trabecular arrangement, which was classified as the Soga D type. Argyrophilic reaction was positive (Grimelius) and argentaffin negative (Masson-Fontana). Secretory granules were seen by electron microscopy.

A rare case of lipohyperplasia of the ileocecal valve contiguous with adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon is reported. The patient was a 67-year-old female with a chief complaint of muco-bloody stool. Barium enema X-ray study revealed a filling defect in the proximal portion of the ascending colon, suggestive of Borrmann II-type carcinoma and enlargement of the ileocecal valve. Bilateral adrenal neuroblastoma is extremely rare, with isolated case reports considered to represent metastatic spread rather than simultaneous occurrence. This patient was found to have synchronous, separate, and equal size neoplasms that morphologically and ultrastructurally are neuroblastoma. We believe that these findings represent the unusual occurrence of simultaneous primary adrenal neuroblastoma reflecting multicentric origin of this neoplasm.

In four instances, metastases to epidermis from primary cutaneous malignant melanomas at different sites showed histological features similar to those of cutaneous malignant melanoma primary in the epidermis. In these metastases, atypical melanocytes were present within the epidermis and in the upper part of the dermis much as in primary cutaneous malignant melanoma. Therefore, the presence of atypical melanocytes within the epidermis is not in itself an absolute criterion of malignant melanoma primary in skin.
