Abomasal ulcer (AU) is a common condition in dairy cows that significantly affects productivity and longevity. This study evaluated the diagnostic value of serum biomarkers and the fecal occult blood test (FOBT), and tested a Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) model to predict ulcer occurrence. Muscarinic receptors stimulate the secretion of acid pepsinogen and mucous in gastric mucosa. Whether muscarinic receptors are involved in the pathogenesis of benign gastric disease is unknown. Gastric mucosal histology and function were evaluated in 57 Italian subjects with dermatitis herpetiformis (DH), by means of multiple endoscopic biopsies, gastrin and pepsinogen I (Pg I) serum levels, and parietal cell antibodies (PCA). One hundred and forty-nine patients with nonulcer dyspepsia served as reference population for the prevalence of atrophic gastritis of the body. Seventeen DH patients (30%) and 23 controls (15.4%) showed atrophic gastritis of the body mucosa (p less than 0.05). Nine of the DH patients with atrophic gastritis of the body also had atrophic changes in the antrum.

In Indonesia, endoscopy services are limited and studies about gastric mucosal status by using pepsinogens (PGs) are rare. We measured PG levels, and calculated the best cutoff and predictive values for discriminating gastric mucosal status among ethnic groups in Indonesia. Friesian calves given a low level infection of the abomasal parasite Ostertagia ostertagi over a six week period displayed a mild diarrhoea with high faecal egg counts and elevated plasma pepsinogen values.
