A case of generalized peritonitis, secondary to a rupture of the rectosigmoid portion of the colon is presented. The surgical management is discussed, a basic part of which is the use of a Baker tube to splint the small intestine while adhesions form in a pattern along the tube, as a substitute method for a Nobel plication, to prevent chronic small intestinal obstruction. The filarial nematode Setaria bidentata was found in 10 of 31 fetuses of the red brocket deer ( Mazama americana ) from the Loreto region of the Peruvian Amazon. A total of 25 specimens were collected and morphologically identified as S. bidentata. Filarial nematodes were found in the peritoneal cavity of 9 deer fetuses and the thoracic cavity of 1 fetus. Giant peritoneal loose bodies are rare and few reported cases are found in literature. These are commonly found in the pelvis. An abdominal operation combines a somatic abdominal wall wound with a second autonomic wound to the peritoneal cavity and viscera and little attention has been paid the autonomic/peritoneal wound that communicates directly to the brain by the vagus nerve. Moreover, vagal input originating from the peritoneum modulates and regulates postoperative recovery. Consequently, blockade of the afferent neural and inflammatory input from this autonomic/peritoneal wound will reduce postoperative neurohormonal stress and enhance patient recovery from an abdominal operation.

Blastomycosis is a disease caused by the fungus Blastomyces dermatitidis. Pulmonary blastomycosis is the most common form of blastomycosis. Disseminated blastomycosis is the fulminant form of the disease, with rare reports of peritoneal cavity involvement. We report a case of extensive form of the disease presenting initially as abdominal pain and mimicking peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Meconium peritonitis is a sterile chemical peritonitis preceded by bowel perforation, resulting in meconium leakage and subsequent inflammatory cascade within the peritoneal cavity. The presentation can range from simple failure of the neonate to pass meconium to complications such as persistent pulmonary hypertension, lung hypoplasia, and systemic inflammatory syndrome. The purpose of this article is to review a case of meconium peritonitis while considering its etiology, diagnosis, management, and multidisciplinary team care.
