A case history of a young man with recurrent papillophlebitis. The fluorescein angiogram showed an extensive hyperfluorescence of the disk and surrounding retinal veins in the venous and late phase. The electro-ophthalmological findings were normal in both eyes, while computerized perimetry demonstrated an enlarged blind spot in the bad eye but was normal in the other. The paper concludes with a description of the differential diagnosis of papillophlebitis, papillitis and papilledema caused by vascular occlusive disease or increased intracranial pressure.

The efficacy and safety of intravenously administered miconazole nitrate was examined in eight patients with the following infections: cutaneous North American blastomycosis (one), extensive dermatophytosis(one), and chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis (six). Mycologic assessment included direct examination for fungal elements, fungal culture, and histopathology. Laboratory evaluations were performed before and at regular intervals during the study. The total miconazole nitrate dosage, which was administered over a seven- to 32-day period, ranged from 4.0 to 46.8 g. Follow-up examinations extend

Based on the analysis of 87 pathologic complementary lymphangiographies of the lower limbs performed concomitantly with a lymphographic check-up of the pelvi-abdominal lymph nodes in various diseases, the authors have tried to establish the relationships of the moderate secondary disturbances of the lymph flow with the different pathologic antecedents affecting the lower extremities and their clinical symptoms. Emphasis is layed on the non-specificity of the early and delayed lymphangiographic aspects. The widest semeiology was recorded in phlebites and the less marked in arthroses. The more n

Cutaneous allergic vasculitis alone or combined with a systemic condition is of interest to the phlebologist when it occurs in the leg. All the clinical and paraclinical examinations must be oriented towards looking for infection, toxaemia, or even a so-called auto-immune disease. Treatment, although rarely very successful as regards the etiology, includes a considerable range of therapeutic possibilities, e.g. vasculotropic and anti-inflammatory drugs and immunosuppressive chemotherapy, to induce rapid sedation and often definitive cure.

Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is characterized by extensive infiltration of IgG4(+) plasma cells and fibrosis in various organ … mphoplasmacytic infiltration (>90% were IgG4(+) plasma cells), storiform fibrosis, and obliterative phlebitis; thus leading to a diagnosis of IgG4-RD. We conclude that IgG4-RD can present as a bilateral ovarian mass along with lymphadenopathy, therefore mimicking ovarian cancer.

Hyalinizing cholecystitis (HC) is a recently described rare subtype of chronic cholecystitis characterized by dense, paucicellular collagenous transmural fibrosis, which usually replaces the mucosa and muscularis propria. Immunoglobulin (Ig)G4-associated cholecystitis is also a newly described cholecystitis variant characterized by transmural or extramural lymphoplasmacytic inflammation, lymphoid follicles, storiform fibrosis, phlebitis, and increased tissue IgG4-positive plasma cells. We describe a case of cholecystitis in an elderly white man who harbored features of both HC and IgG4-associa…

A 32 year-old woman was referred from the Ophthalmology Department to rule out a possible systemic disease. Her only past medical history of relevance was a tuberculosis contact during childhood. She complained of floaters and progressive blurring of vision in both eyes for some months, as well as arthralgia and cough. Her visual acuity was 0.3 in the right eye and 0.4 in the left eye. Biomicroscopy showed bilateral anterior granulomatous uveitis (1+ cells). Funduscopy showed bilateral vitritis 3+, snow banking and peripheral phlebitis. Fluorescein angiography did not show central vasculitis, …

IgG4-related sclerosing disease, a multiorgan system disease that has been identified in the last 10 years, is a fibroinflammatory condition with a marked propensity to manifest itself as mass forming lesions characterized by three main histological features (sclerosis, obliterative phlebitis and lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate) and by the presence of abundant IgG4+ plasma cells, frequent elevation of serum IgG4 and a dramatic initial response to steroid therapy. The aim of this mini-review is to increase the capacity to identify the characteristic features of IgG4-related sclerosing disease in s…

A case of venous thrombosis with pseudo-tumoral cerebellar infarction is reported. Cerebello-vestibular symptoms and intracranial hypertension had a progressive course over one and half month. CT showed an unilateral cerebellar lesion, with contrast medium enhancement and hydrocephaly. Thrombosis of the cerebellar superficial veins was found at surgical operation. A thrombosis of the transverse sinus was likely. No cause was discovered. This case, together with a published one, shows that a venous thrombosis may determine a cerebellar infarct.

The substitute "valve" operation with use of a silicone tendon designed to produce a valvelike mechanism in the popliteal veins of 29 patients with 31 postphlebitic limbs caused by reflux in the deep veins is described. The results have been assessed by measurements, taken during ambulation, of venous pressure before operation, 1 week after operation, and 1 year after operation and by phlebography. In 29 limbs there was clinical improvement associated with improvement in the venous pressure assessed during ambulation and phlebographic evidence of a functioning substitute valve.
