An automatic system has been developed to measure the variations in the rate of shoot elongation of tree seedlings. A camera equipped with 50 mm macro-objective lens, with automatic flash and winder is attached to a motor-operated rotatable stand. The camera is connected to an intervalometer enabling exposures of various seedlings placed around the stand to be taken in sequence at a given time interval. Fourteen patients from four unrelated families were studied to determine the prevalence of retinal pigmentary abnormalities associated with the MELAS A to G 3243 point mutation. BACKGROUND: Sequential visual field testing is an extremely helpful adjunct to ophthalmoscopy and fundus photography in the management of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis with the antiviral agents ganciclovir or foscarnet in patients with the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).
