The German version of the Oral Health Impact Profile--translation and psychometric properties.

The need for cross-culturally adapted oral-health specific health outcome measures is increasingly recognized in Germany. Following accepted cultural adaptation technique guidelines, we report the development of the German version of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP). The original 49 items were translated using a forward-backward method. A de novo development of German items established content validity. A priori hypothesized associations between the OHIP summary score and self-reported oral health and five oral disorders were confirmed in a random sample of the general population (n = 163

The child PTSD Symptom Scale: a preliminary examination of its psychometric properties.

Reports on the development and preliminary validation of the Child PTSD Symptom Scale (CPSS) for children and adolescents. The CPSS is a new instrument that was developed to assess the severity of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th ed.; American Psychiatric Association, 1994) posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in children exposed to trauma. The CPSS was administered to 75 school-age children approximately 2 years after the 1994 Northridge, California, earthquake. The psychometric properties of the CPSS show high internal consistency and test-retest reliability for b

Factor structure and psychometric properties of the brief Mizes Anorectic Cognitions questionnaire.

The Mizes Anorectic Cognitions-Revised (MAC-R) questionnaire is a 24-item self-report instrument designed to assess cognitions associated with anorexia and bulimia nervosa. We examined the factor structure and psychometric properties of the MAC-R in a sample of 290 undergraduates. We found that a brief 3-factor oblique model (composed of 12 items) of the MAC-R provided acceptable fit to the present sample data. This model was largely invariant across male and female participants. The brief version of the MAC-R (the BMAC) and subscale scores correlated significantly with scores from related mea

Psychometric evaluation of the Beck Depression Inventory in adults with social anxiety disorder.

Although the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) is commonly used to assess levels of depressive symptoms in socially anxious adults, its psychometric properties in this context have never been formally examined. Therefore, we examined the psychometrics of the BDI in a sample of adults with a principal diagnosis of social anxiety disorder (N = 113). The BDI exhibited good internal consistency and re-test reliability. It also correlated significantly more strongly with other measures of depression than with measures of either social or non-social anxiety. Thus, the BDI appears to be a valid tool fo…

Psychometric performance before and after laser palatoplasty for non-apnoeic snoring.

Psychometric tests are an objective way of examining cognitive functioning, and have shown impairment in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea. Non-apnoeic snoring may cause reduced concentration, but psychometric tests have been used rarely in this population. We investigate whether their use can demonstrate an improvement in cognitive performance in 20 non-apnoeic snorers following Laser Palatoplasty (LPP). The subjects completed psychometric tests, Beck Anxiety and Depression Inventories and an Epworth Sleepiness Scale on two occasions before LPP and once postoperatively. The only index to

An exploration of the psychometric properties of the French version of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale.

The psychometric properties of the French version of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) were studied in a population of 85 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia in accordance with Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III-R) criteria. The results of the study of the properties (internal consistency and principal-component analysis) of the initial structure with 3 scales (positive, negative, and general psychopathology) led us to investigate other factorial structures. We thus isolated a 5-factor structure (negative, hostility, positive, disorganization, and a

Cerebral perfusion and psychometric testing after exposure to high altitude in the mountains.

Exposure to hypobaric hypoxia is known to cause reductions in mental performance and decision-making and it has been reported that these effects are not fully reversed following descent from altitude. Eight climbers had cerebral perfusion scans performed and undertook a battery of psychometric tests prior to, and upon return from, an expedition to climb the eleventh highest mountain in the world, Gasherbrum 1. No decrements were found in either their performance on the psychometric tests nor to their cerebral perfusion following the expedition. Two subjects had significant cerebral perfusion a

Psychometric and biographical correlates of drunk-driving recidivism and treatment program compliance.

The primary objective of this study was to assess the extent to which drunk-driving (DUI) recidivism and DUI treatment program compliance could be predicted from psychometric, biographical, drinking history and prior-driving-record variables. These analyses were performed on data from 7,316 DUI offenders initially collected in Sacramento County, California, from September 1977 through January 1981. For most analyses, the recidivism measure was a composite of major convictions (DUI, reckless, hit-and-run), nighttime (6 PM-6 AM) and alcohol-related accidents during the 4-year interval following

In-depth psychometric evaluation of the PsychQOL questionnaire: factor structure and ROC analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Validated quality of life assessments that show strong structural validity and screening utility with a cut-off point for psychiatric patients remain scarce. The initial validation of the New Psychological Quality of Life (PsychQOL) revealed a five-factor model through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). AIM: This study aimed to assess the construct validity of the New Psychological Quality of Life (PsychQOL) measure through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, and to establish the preliminary cut-off score that differenti

Adaptation of the mentor mindsets scale: validation, psychometric properties, and practical application.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to adapt the Mentor Mindset Scale into Turkish and examine its psychometric properties. The scale assesses mentors' orientations toward youth as Enforcer and Protector, conceptualizing Mentor Mindset as a pattern defined by these two dimensions. METHODS: The sample comprised 316 adults (210 women, 106 men). To further examine construct distinctiveness, the Implicit Theories of Intelligence Scale was employed to test concurrent validity across fixed and growth mindset dimensions. RESULTS: Confirmatory factor analysis supported the proposed two-factor structure,

Measurement Properties of the Polish Nurse-Nurse Collaboration Scale: A Psychometric Study.

Background and Purpose: Reliable measurement of nurse-nurse collaboration requires psychometrically sound instruments with stable factor structures across cultural contexts. Previous cross-cultural studies of the Nurse-Nurse Collaboration Scale (NNCS) suggest variability in its dimensional structure. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Polish version of the NNCS (NNCS-Pl). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 312 professionally active nurses in Poland. The NNCS was translated and culturally adapted following established guidelines. Construct validity
