Evaluation of Real-Life Data on Toxicity in Elderly Patients Undergoing Adjuvant External Beam Radiotherapy for Endometrial Carcinoma.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Endometrial cancer is one of the most common malignancies of the female reproductive system. Fortunately, risk-adapte … with an increased incidence of acute radiogenic side effects such as cystitis, diarrhea, proctitis, radiodermatitis, nausea, or vaginal dryness according to CTCAE ≥ 2 (all p > 0.50). No difference was found between the two groups in terms of the incidence of radiotherapy-associated toxicity. CONCLUSIONS: We found no increase in toxicity in elderly patients after …

Relapsed, Refractory, or Advanced Hodgkin Lymphoma: A Single-Center Experience.

PURPOSE: To assess the treatment and outcomes of patients with relapsed, refractory, or advanced Hodgkin lymphoma treated with consolidation … d-node radiotherapy, and 2 by other volumes. The acute toxicity profile was favorable, with grade 1 radiodermatitis (33%) or dysphagia (30%). Overall, 21 patients (64%) experienced prolonged complete response and 12 experienced relapse (36%) after radiotherapy. Median disease-free survival was 68.8 months. CONCLUSIONS: External-beam radiotherapy should be consid …

Impact of p16 Alterations and Pretreatment Anemia on Toxicity in Head and Neck Cancer Patients Undergoing Definitive Radiochemotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection, p16 expression and hypoxia may play important roles in the carcinogenesis, treatment resp … nificantly associated with acute grade 3 toxicity. 47% of p16-positive patients developed grade ≥ 3 radiodermatitis compared to 26% of p16-negative patients (p = 0.04). A reduced risk of severe skin toxicities was noted for patients with hypoxic blood values before RT. p16 expression was significantly correlated with local control (p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: p16 e …

Simple approach to the radiated scalp wound using INTEGRA skin substitute.

The chronic irradiated scalp wound remains one of the most difficult reconstructions for the plastic surgeon. With its inherent radiodermatitis and poor healing potential, chronic ulcers down to bone will result if coverage cannot be achieved. Reconstructive procedures as simple as a skin graft have a high complication rate in the irradiated wound and often fail. Local tissue transfer also has a high failure and complication rate because of the decreased vascularity of the wound bed and radiation damage to the surrounding scalp tissue, limiting its manipulation. The authors report two cases us…

Bullous pemphigoid following adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an autoimmune cutaneous blistering disease that predominantly affects elderly patients. Radiotherapy … omplication of breast radiotherapy. Acute-onset blistering lesions outside the typical timeframe of radiodermatitis should prompt consideration of autoimmune cutaneous disease. Establishing a strong physician-patient relationship combined with an interdisciplinary approach is essential to ensure early diagnosis and favorable clinical outcomes.

Bidirectional Mendelian Randomization Analysis to Study the Relationship Between Human Skin Microbiota and Radiation-Induced Skin Toxicity.

Radiation-induced skin toxicity, resulting from ionizing or nonionizing radiation, is a common skin disorder. However, the underlying relati … phylococcus could serve as a common risk factor for radiation-induced skin toxicity, especially for radiodermatitis. And Streptococcus salivarius was identified as a potential protective factor against radiation-induced skin toxicity. Additional analysis indicated no pleiotropy, heterogeneity, or reverse causal relationship in the results. We comprehensively asse …

High-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy for Treatment of Facial Skin Cancers: Local Control, Toxicity, and Quality of Life in 67 Patients.

While treatment of localized cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is based on surgery, brachytherapy, whic … at 3 years was 87.05% (95% CI 74.6-93.7). All patients developed grade 1-2 acute radio-mucositis or radiodermatitis and one experienced reversible grade 3 acute radio-mucositis. Of the 27 patients who completed the quality-of-life questionnaire, 77.8% recommended the treatment. This study confirms that HDR brachytherapy for facial cutaneous carcinomas provides go …
