Forty female out-patients undergoing therapeutic abortion participated in a double-blind study comparing flunitrazepam 0.05 mg . kg-1 with thiopentone 6.0 mg . kg-1 as induction agents for general anaesthesia. Induction time, as measured by the time to loss of lid reflex and voluntary speech, was not only significantly longer in patients receiving flunitrazepam, but also much more variable and imprecise than with thiopentone. Volume resuscitation (VR) for the treatment of newborn shock is a rare but potentially lifesaving intervention. Conducting clinical studies to assess the effectiveness of VR in the delivery room during newborn stabilization is challenging. We review the available literature and current management guidelines to determine which infants will benefit from VR, the frequency of VR, and the choice of agents used. In addition, the potential role for placental transfusion in the prevention of newborn shock is explored.

OBJECTIVE: Pediatric kidney stone disease is a health problem that may require invasive surgical interventions during childhood and can impose a substantial psychological burden on both the child and the family. Uncertainty regarding anesthesia, perioperative safety, postoperative pain, and early recovery/stone clearance may increase both parental and child anxiety. Herein, we synthesized a novel injectable porous magnetic hydrogel (MHG) at room temperature using carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), polydopamine (PDA), sodium alginate (SA), polyethyleneimine (PEI) and copper ferrite (CuFe2O4) as building blocks. Controlling preoperative anxiety is necessary in pediatric patients to avoid adverse effects such as emergence delirium, behavioral problems, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety prior to future procedures, and increased analgesic doses in the recovery room. We report the fabrication and testing of a riboflavin (RF) biosensor based on the use of Cr doped SnO2 nanoparticles. The Cr-SnO2 nanoparticles with chromium concentration from 0 to 5 wt% were synthesised by a microwave irradiation method. Our results with the combination anesthetic technique of midazolam-alfentanil during elective outpatient extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy on the Dornier HM3 (N = 79) were compared with those of epidural anesthesia in the same setting (N = 81).
