An agent synthesized from amorphous silica and hydrated lime (CSH-lime) was investigated for its ability to simultaneously remove the colour, phosphorus and disinfection from the effluents from wastewater treatment plants on swine farms. CSH-lime removed the colour and phosphate from the effluents, with the colour-removal effects especially high at pH 12, and phosphorous removal was more effective in strongly alkaline conditions (pH > 10). Micropatterned hydrogel stamps soaked in appropriate chemical etchants can imprint various types of micro- and nanoarchitectures into metals, conductive oxides, semiconductors, glasses, and crystals. Localized etching is mediated by a reaction-diffusion process initiated from the stamp microfeatures and gives lateral resolution down to approximately 300 nm. The method is well suited for the rapid prototyping of small-scale devices including multilevel microfluidic systems and curvilinear optical elements.

Ab initio theoretical evidence of hexacoordinate planar main group atoms centered in hexagonal hydrocopper complexes Cu(6)H(6)X (X = Si, P, As) is presented at the density functional theory level in this work. The results obtained extend the bonding capacity of silicon, phosphorus, and arsenic to planar hexacoordination in hydrocopper complexes which are important in fundamental research and may shed new insight into catalyst chemistry.
