Benign lymphocytic angiitis and granulomatosis is a T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder confined to the lung and corresponding to a low-grade angiocentric immunoproliferative lesion. Controversy remains as to whether these lesions are lymphomas. We report such a case in an 8-year-old patient with Burkitt's lymphoma in remission who presented with persistent bronchopneumopathy and bilateral pulmonary infiltrates on tomodensitometry. The authors prospectively analyzed T-lymphocyte subpopulations in the peripheral blood of nine patients with acute unilateral optic neuritis and compared them with 25 controls without neurologic disease. The T-colony-forming capacity was examined in 13 normal subjects and 14 patients with biopsy-proven lipoid nephrosis (LN). Screening of sixty-six asymptomatic homosexual men from Copenhagen revealed significantly lower Leu-3a/Leu-2a ratios as compared to controls. Lymphocyte subsets in the tissues of fourteen patients with leprosy were studied using monoclonal antibodies and a modified immunoperoxidase technic. Two immunohistologic patterns were observed. The t(14;18)(q32;q21) is a cytogenetic hallmark of follicular lymphoma and also occurs in approximately 20% of diffuse large B-cell lymphomas of follicle center cell origin.
