Transgender (trans) Filipinos are disproportionately vulnerable to health problems because of the inaccessibility of essential healthcare services resulting from the invisibility and exclusion of trans health in Philippine health and related social institutions. Because of the institutional prejudice and discrimination against trans Filipinos in Philippine society, an intersectional approach presents an opportunity to analyze the invisibility and potentially elucidate the unique health needs of trans Filipinos. This article elucidates how the invisibility of trans Filipinos in health is a prod

Transidentity, in terms of the fluidity of gender identities, is unthought during the 19th century in France. In a society marked by sexual binarity, one can nevertheless discover in unpublished archives women who lived as men and, exceptionally, men who lived as women. These transgender existences exhibit all social backgrounds, especially the poorest people. The performative intensity can be read first of all in the physical appearance recomposed by the clothing and the haircut. But more than that, it can be appreciated through the ability to integrate the sociability of the chosen gender in

In Pakistan, the transgender community faces many challenges. Transgender identity is considered taboo and people tend to distance themselves from them without knowing their issues. They face difficulties seeking education, jobs, and even basic human rights. They also face violence and social exploitation. Due to the lack of support from their family members, they're more prone to develop psychological problems and suicidality. Trans rights are human rights - the purpose of our paper is to expose the dire state of mental health of the transgender community in Pakistan on an international platf

While individuals have demonstrated gender diversity throughout history, the use of medication and/or surgery to bring a person's physical sex characteristics into alignment with their gender identity is relatively recent, with origins in the first half of the 20th century. Adolescent gender-affirming care, however, did not emerge until the late 20th century and has been built upon pioneering work from the Netherlands, first published in 1998. Since that time, evolving protocols for gender-diverse adolescents have been incorporated into clinical practice guidelines and standards of care publis

Globally, models of care for young persons with gender dysphoria differ across jurisdictions. Historically, developed countries have utilised the medical approach. More recently, broader models that place a greater emphasis on psychological interventions are emerging. This piece utilizes the Australian experience to compare models of care for gender dysphoria. Reflecting on the relative passivity of Psychiatry to date, historical reasons for this silence are explored. As relative experts in relationship dynamics and key bearers of the history of sexual health diagnoses, it is proposed that Psy

PURPOSE: This study measured and compared the acoustic short-term effects of pitch elevation training (PET) and articulation-resonance training (ART) and the combination of both programs, in transgender women.
METHOD: A randomized controlled study with cross-over design was used. Thirty transgender women were included and received 14 weeks of speech training. All participants started with 4 weeks of sham training; after which they were randomly assigned to one of two groups: One group continued with PET (5 weeks), followed by ART (5 weeks); the second group received both trainings in opposite

AIMS: Gender-affirming surgery consists of a group of surgical procedures for patients presenting with gender incongruence. Patients may seek treatment of anatomic areas including the face, chest, breast, and genitalia. The aim of this scoping review is to provide a general understanding of wound healing to optimize outcomes and manage complications.
METHODS: A scoping review was performed to include wound healing principles, outcomes related to gender-affirming surgery, and management of postsurgical wounds.
RESULTS: Based on the review performed and clinical experience, strategies to manag

Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals may undergo a wide range of care during gender transition including mental health counseling, gender-affirming hormonal therapy, and various surgeries. Hormone therapy effectively converts the hormonal milieu into that of the affirmed gender and produces measurable alterations in serum markers for coronary artery disease and other hematologic conditions (eg, erythrocytosis, venous thrombosis). Although illegal in the United States, some transgender women may receive silicone injections for breast and soft tissue augmentation, which can lead to d

Transgender women may opt for genital gender-affirming surgery (gGAS), which comprises bilateral orchiectomy, gender-affirming vulvoplasty, or vaginoplasty. Vaginoplasty is chosen most frequently in this population, penile inversion vaginoplasty being the surgical gold standard. In selected cases, skin graft vaginoplasty, intestinal vaginoplasty, or peritoneal vaginoplasty may be indicated. In this article, we discuss the various types of gGAS for transgender women, (contra)-indications, intraoperative considerations, techniques, surgical outcomes, and postoperative patient-reported outcomes.

Transgender healthcare faces a dilemma. On the one hand, access to certain medical interventions, including hormone treatments or surgeries, where desired, may be beneficial or even vital for some gender dysphoric trans people. But on the other hand, access to medical interventions typically requires a diagnosis, which, in turn, seems to imply the existence of a pathological state-something that many transgender people reject as a false and stigmatizing characterization of their experience or identity. In this paper we argue that developments from the human enhancement debate can help clarify

Tension between naming gender dysphoria to render an important kind of suffering among transgender people more visible and avoiding pathologizing experiences of transgender people in a gender-binary world can be keenly felt among patients seeking gender-affirming services. This article suggests why clinical "verification" of a patient's need for gender-affirming care is likely less important than clinicians' expressions of empathy and respect for patients' autonomy. This article also suggests that fostering transgender patients' sense of agency should be prioritized.

As the demand for gender-affirming procedures continues to increase, patients and providers have a greater imperative to understand the current state of facial masculinization. Facial reconstruction for transgender women has been shown to treat gender dysphoria effectively and reduce rates of discrimination and victimization. Although facial masculinization surgery for transgender men is less common, there are multiple surgical and nonsurgical options to supplement the effect of hormone therapy on facial appearance, including but not limited to: receding the hair line, flattening the forehead,

The fact that modern patterns of the treatment of trans individuals are not based on controlled or long-term comprehensive follow-up studies has allowed many ethical tensions to persist. These have been intensifying as the numbers of adolescent girls declare themselves to be trans, have gender dysphoria, or are "boys." This essay aims to assist clinicians in their initial approach to trans patients of any age. Gender identity is only one aspect of an individual's multifaceted identity. The contributions to the passionate positions in the trans culture debate are discussed along with the contro

The meta-theoretical resource of critical realism (CR) is deployed in order to examine transgender and healthcare. CR treads a middle way between positivism and postmodernism, within post-Popperian discussions of the philosophy of natural and social science. It focuses on the conditions of possibility for the emergence of a phenomenon under investigation. In this case, the focus is on the emergence of debates about transgenderism in healthcare. These have been technological (about the prospect of biomedical solutions to personal problems) and ideological, with the enlarged salience of identity
