The restricted access to pasture experienced by many competition horses has been linked to the exhibition of stereotypic and redirected behaviour patterns. INTRODUCTION: The Vibroacoustic Disease (VAD) is an occupational pathology induced by long-term (>10 yr) exposure to large pressure amplitude (> or = 90 dB SPL) and low frequency (< or = 500 Hz) noise. During studies contributing to the characterization of VAD, abnormal facial movements induced by repetitive auditory stimuli were observed in one individual employed as an aeronautical mechanic. The incidence and prevalence of epilepsy increases with age, with the majority of cases having a known cause, and approximately half of elderly patients with epilepsy experiencing complex partial seizures that often present initially as neuropsychiatric symptoms. This presentation often delays diagnosis of the epileptiform disorder. To illustrate, we present the case of a 75-year-old man who was initially misdiagnosed with bipolar affective disorder later to be revealed as a frontal lobe seizure disorder.

The facial stereotypies of adults diagnosed as having mental retardation and tardive dyskinesia were examined through a kinematic analysis of video-taped lip and tongue motions. A control group of healthy adult subjects without mental retardation was also examined in the production of preferred rates of lip and tongue oscillatory motions to provide a basis to assess the degree of movement variability in the stereotypies. A study was designed to determine the efficacy of second-look laparoscopy adhesiolysis in preventing adhesion recurrence seven days after conservative microsurgical reconstructive surgery on the uterotuboovarian complex. Third-look laparoscopy was used to evaluate the second-look laparoscopy adhesiolysis 6-18 months later. It indicated that second-look laparoscopy adhesiolysis was beneficial in preventing adhesion recurrence.

Electroencephalographic (EEG) activity was continuously monitored from the hippocampus, amygdala, reticular formation and frontal cortex in freely moving Sprague-Dawley rats exposed to 91 atmospheres absolute pressure (ATA) using compression rates of 1 or 3 ATA/min. A non-invasive method to screen newborn babies for ureteric reflux might allow the possibility of appropriate action to prevent reflux nephropathy.
