Traditional Sudanese medicine is based on experiences of every day people, systems of taboos, customs and deep-rooted traditions. This is a cross-sectional, hospital-based study done in Gaafar Ibnauf Children's Hospital including inpatient and outpatient subjects from October 2009 to January 2010, to identify the pattern and determinants of use, prevalence and commonest types of traditional treatments in Sudanese children. BACKGROUND & AIMS: Administration of terlipressin plus albumin is effective in reversing type 1 HRS as compared to albumin alone. However, only about 1/3 of patients respond to treatment, therefore, predictors of response and survival would help identify the patients most likely to benefit from treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Effects of prenatal alcohol exposure on the brain are seen at every age. The earlier they can be quantified, the better the prognosis for the affected child. Here we show measurable alcohol effects at birth on a structure currently used for nosology only much later in life.

A study was performed to evaluate the impact of knowledge of HIV infection (diagnosis) on contraception information and choices for HIV infected women. A questionnaire was given to 140 HIV infected women. Most of the studied population included young women with a low educational level. In reviewing the records of almost 1000 infants and children with intussusception in two children's hospitals over the last 25 yr, there have been seven bowel perforations during attempted hydrostatic barium enema reduction of an intussusception. Results in 44 patients with esophageal bleeding who underwent a mesocaval shunt utilizing a prosthetic graft are presented. Portal hypertension was secondary to alcoholic cirrhosis in 30 patients, to chronic active hepatitis in eight, to primary biliary cirrhosis in four, to cirrhosis secondary to inflammatory bowel disease in one, and to portal vein thrombosis following splenectomy in one. High altitude cerebral edema (HACE) is a rare but potentially fatal condition previously understudied in pediatric populations. We present a case of HACE in a previously healthy 10-y-old boy who rapidly developed neurologic symptoms at 4000 m on Mount Kilimanjaro.
