Progression of choroidal metastasis of ovarian serous cystoadenocarcinoma after intravitreal bevacizumab treatment.

A 57-year-old woman presented to her ophthalmologist because of rapid deterioration in vision. Dilated funduscopic examination of the right eye showed an elevated, yellow-orange choroidal mass temporal to the fovea; a complete retinal detachment was present in the left eye. The patient was referred to an oncologist. Computerized tomography of the brain, thorax, abdomen, and pelvis were obtained. They revealed an 11-mm mass in the right parietal lobe, a 30-mm mass in the left temporal lobe, 23-mm mass in the right kidney, and multiple nodules in both lungs. Supported by published experience wit

Capsule contraction syndrome in Behcet's disease.

We reported the case of a 39-year-old patient with inactive Behcet's syndrome developed capsule contraction syndrome after uneventful phacoemulsification and a foldable intraocular lens implantation. Two weeks after the operation, the patient was accepted to hospital with severe decrease of visual acuity (VA) on the operated eye. Capsule opening area had been reduced considerably by fibrotic tissue, which evaluated with full dilated pupil. Since capsule contraction syndrome (CCS) had been diagnosed in very early stage and which structure was not severely thick, the fibrotic band was treated su

Successful remission induction with a combination therapy of rituximab, cyclophosphamide, and steroids in a patient with refractory optic neuritis in Wegener's granulomatosis.

A 56-year old patient with a history of limited Wegener's granulomatosis presented with signs and symptoms of optic neuritis. Radiologic signs of orbital inflammation were absent. Testing of visual acuity and visual field allowed close monitoring of disease activity. Thus, rapid improvement of visual function was achieved with high-dose steroids. Despite maintenance therapy with cyclophosphamide recurrence occurred repeatedly as soon as tapering of steroids was begun. After remission induction with rituximab, the patient retained good visual function under maintenance therapy with azathioprine

Methotrimeprazine-induced corneal deposits and cataract revealed by urine drug profiling test.

Two schizophrenic patients who had been taking medication for a long period presented with visual disturbance of 6-month duration. Slit-lamp examination revealed fine, discrete, and brownish deposits on the posterior cornea. In addition, bilateral star-shaped anterior subcapsular lens opacities, which were dense, dust-like granular deposits, were noted. Although we strongly suspected that the patient might have taken one of the drugs of the phenothiazine family, we were unable to obtain a history of medications other than haloperidol and risperidone, which were taken for 3 yr. We performed a d

Evaluating optic system compression in sellar tumors: A novel application of quantitative pupillometry.

INTRODUCTION: Tumorous growths in the sellar region pose significant clinical challenges due to their proximity to critical visual structures such as the optic chiasm and optic nerves. Given their proximity to the optic system, these tumors are often diagnosed due to a progressive decrease in visual acuity. Thus, surgical intervention is crucial to prevent irreversible damage, as timely decompression can halt the progression of edema and subsequent optic atrophy. Although Quantitative Pupillometry (QP) has been employed in various clinical settings, its application in patients with sellar regi
