Pain over the front of the knee is common after surgery or trauma but often a definite diagnosis is difficult to make. INTRODUCTION: Vertebral compression fractures related to osteoporosis may cause persistent pain which impairs mobility and reduces the quality of life. Percutaneous vertebroplasty is a therapeutic interventional radiology procedure which is used in the management of pain relief in such fractures. Ultrasound-guided percutaneous fine needle puncture of the gallbladder (PFNP-GB) is invaluable for diagnostic and research purposes, but there are few reports about its safety. Neuropathic arthropathy is a complex deformity found in a multitude of disease processes. Various forms of conservative and surgical treatment options have been reported throughout the literature; however, a limited number of such treatments address the underlying deformity. This article reviews the indications and surgical criteria necessary to perform successful arthrodesis procedures in patients afflicted with this problem. A case report is presented, using arthrodesis as a salvage procedure for a painful Charcot deformity of the midfoot in a patient with diabetic neuroarthropathy.

The American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists' 1993 membership survey on operative laparoscopy had 825 respondents reporting 45,042 procedures. The most frequent indication was pelvic pain (56% of procedures), followed by infertility (38%). There were 7382 laparoscopically assisted hysterectomies reported. Compared with 1988 and 1991 survey data, the rates of unintended laparotomy, hemorrhage, and bowel or urinary tract injury increased, but the overall complication and death rates remained essentially unchanged.
