This review concerns the influence of ovarian steroids and of pregnancy on norepinephrine (NE) metabolism in the adrenergic neurons of the female reproductive tract and speculates on the physiological consequences of this influence. Estrogen and progesterone affect not only the NE content of these nerves but also the turnover of NE, the activity of its synthetic enzyme, and releases of NE from nerve terminals. During pregnancy additional factors including stretch-induced hypertrophy come into play and cause degeneration of the nerves in the uterine corpus. This degeneration makes the muscle su

Recanalzation at the site of tubal ligation is one of the causes of the failure of such a procedure. The underlying factor could be a pre-existing proliferative disease of the tube, i.e. salpingitis isthmica nodosa. The plexiform type of re-canalization that resulted in the presented case might the cause of the tubal pregnancy. The presence of amenorrhea and /or irregular uterine bleeding in a patient with tubal sterilization requires meticulous investigations to avoid the high morbidity rate associated with missed ectopic gestation. The use of HCG assays and laparoscopic evaluation could impr

A modified technique of total abdominal hysterectomy in the presence of gross distortion of pelvic anatomy with displacement of vital structures by chronic pelvic inflammatory disease with or without tubo-ovarian abscess formation and adherent giant myomas of the uterus is described. In the 16 cases personally operated upon by the author there were no major operative or post-operative complications. Experience with this procedure is reviewed and its wider use advocated. The removal of the uterus and adnexa by the abdominal route is one of the commonest procedures in gynaecological practice. Th
