Perceived role isolation and work addiction risk among entrepreneurs: associations with perceived business success.

INTRODUCTION: Entrepreneurs and business leaders evaluate the condition of their businesses partly through self-referential judgments rather than financial indicators alone. Little is known, however, about how such judgments relate to maladaptive work investment and to the social experience of the leadership role. This study examines associations among work addiction risk, perceived entrepreneurial role isolation, recovery-related leisure time, work passion, and perceived business success. METHODS: The evidence comes from a cross-sectional sample of 184 Hungarian entrepreneurs and business le

Does Weight Loss Translate to Workplace Gains? Results of an Employment Questionnaire in Adults With Prediabetes and Overweight or Obesity.

AIMS: Excess weight is associated with adverse health and economic disadvantage. Observational studies suggest that people with obesity are less likely to be employed and have lower income, potentially from workplace discrimination. This study examined whether weight loss achieved through a structured, dietitian-supported program improved financial outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An employment questionnaire was embedded within a clinical trial conducted between 2015 and 2019, investigating the effect of dietary supplements on metabolic health in otherwise healthy adults with prediabetes and

Limited cancer health literacy rates and factors associated with cancer health literacy in persons with or without a cancer diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Health literacy is a key factor for health communication efforts. This is especially true for preventing noncommunicable chronic diseases such as cancer. Specifically, limited cancer health literacy (LCHL) is a risk factor for not engaging in disease prevention and treatment. AIMS: This study aimed to obtain model-based estimates of LCHL rates and explore rate differences in sociodemographic characteristics. METHODS: Data from cancer patients (N=1,306) and those without cancer (N=512) collected from the U.S. were used to estimate crude and adjusted LCHL rates using latent class a

Surgical tray optimization: a prospective and survey-based evaluation of environmental and economic outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Operating rooms are resource-intensive environments. While reusable instruments are more sustainable than disposables, sterilization and reprocessing of unused instruments in the trays generate unnecessary environmental and financial burdens. Surgical tray optimization-removal of rarely used instruments-may reduce these impacts. Current evidence is fragmented, with no standard method to identify unused instruments and limited integration of environmental and cost analyses. METHODS: We prospectively recorded instrument use for the Major General Surgery tray (94 reusable instruments

Quantifying long-term outcomes and risks for living liver donors: a review of the current global experience.

Living donor liver transplantation is a critical treatment for end-stage liver disease, with numerous advantages over deceased donor liver transplant. However, living liver donors face potential long-term physical, psychological, and social challenges. This review summarizes the long-term impact of donation and highlights the ethical need for lifelong follow-up. While major complications occur in 2-8% of donors, evidence on outcomes beyond one year remains limited. Biliary complications remain the most frequent serious morbidity, and are generally managed endoscopically, rarely requiring hepat

Immunodominance hierarchy of influenza A haemagglutinin antigenic sites: an observational cohort study across distinct exposure histories.

BACKGROUND: Antibody responses to influenza A viruses are strongly focused on immunodominant antigenic sites within the haemagglutinin (HA) head domain. Although immunodominance hierarchies have been described for H1 and H3 subtypes in adults, it remains unclear whether these patterns are shaped by first early-life exposure or by cumulative influenza infections or vaccinations over time. METHODS: We evaluated HA antigenic site immunodominance using haemagglutination inhibition (HI) assays with panels of H1 and H3 mutant viruses lacking individual classical antigenic sites. Sera from two human

Establishing the role of ZBTB20 mutations in GnRH deficiency and impaired neurogenesis in the subventricular zone: a human cohort and animal model study.

BACKGROUND: Congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH) arises from defective development or dysfunction of GnRH neurons. Olfactory bulb (OB) malformations frequently accompany CHH, a condition termed Kallmann syndrome (KS). Nevertheless, approximately 50% of CHH cases remain genetically undefined. METHODS: Leveraging our 15-year effort in building one of Asia's largest CHH cohorts (812 unrelated patients, and 49 CHH families), we identified a pathogenic ZBTB20 mutation (p.R300C) in a four-generation CHH family with seven affected members. We generated nervous system-specific Zbtb20 condit

Mechanistic Insights and Therapeutic Advances of Anti-Inflammatory Biologics in Immune-Mediated Glomerulonephritis: A Narrative Review.

Immune-mediated glomerulonephritis represents a diverse group of kidney disorders caused by dysregulated immune responses and constitutes a major contributor to chronic kidney disease. Its pathogenesis can be conceptualized as a three-step cascade: aberrant activation of innate immunity through pattern-recognition receptors, inflammasome complexes, and complement pathways; adaptive immune dysregulation characterized by imbalanced B- and T-cell responses and the production of pathogenic autoantibodies; and terminal effector injury involving complement-mediated damage and progressive fibrosis. Real-World Impact of a Simplified 'Test and Treat' Strategy for In-Hospital HCV Micro-Elimination.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) micro-elimination faces challenges from fragmented care pathways, particularly in high-prevalence regions with complex genotypes and socioeconomic barriers. This study evaluated a simplified 'Test and Treat' (TNT) strategy to enhance in-hospital HCV micro-elimination by reducing delays and improving linkage to care. Outcomes including HCV RNA testing rates, treatment uptake rates, time to treatment initiation and sustained virological response at 12 weeks (SVR12) of Pre-TNT (Jan. 2022-Dec. 2022) and post-TNT (Jan. 2023-Dec. 2024) were compared. Following TNT implementat

Direct and indirect effects of loneliness on depression in late life: Persistent loneliness as a primary longitudinal pathway.

OBJECTIVES: Loneliness is a well-established longitudinal predictor of depression in later life, yet the mechanisms through which this association unfolds remain unclear. This study examined the direct and indirect effects of loneliness on subsequent depressive symptoms in late life, with particular emphasis on persistent loneliness over time. METHODS: Community-dwelling, older Israeli adults (N = 1216; M age = 81.1 years) completed annual assessments of loneliness and depressive symptoms over three years. Structural equation modelling was used to estimate autoregressive pathways, prospective

[Translation, Cultural Adaptation and Validation of the Tinnitus Functional Index to European Portuguese].

INTRODUCTION: Tinnitus is defined as the conscious perception of an auditory sensation in the absence of any corresponding external stimulus. It is associated with significant negative consequences across multiple domains of an individual's life, namely physical, psychological, cognitive, auditory, social, and financial. Several questionnaires can be used to measure its impact on quality of life, however, these instruments are not sensitive in quantifying possible treatment-related changes. Therefore, the Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI) was developed, allowing the evaluation not only of tinnit
