OBJECTIVE: Hippocampal volume is commonly decreased in late-life depression. According to the depression-as-late-life-neuropsychiatric-disorder model, lower hippocampal volume in late-life depression is associated with neurodegenerative changes. The histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors, trichostatin A (TSA) and vorinostat (suberoylanilidehydroxamic acid [SAHA]) are known to modulate cell proliferation and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Perivascular epithelioid tumors (PEComas) are a rare group of mesenchymal neoplasms with an unpredictable natural history and uncertain malignant potential. Uterine involvement and their association with tuberous sclerosis are typical for these tumors. We present a case of a 40-year old patient who was incidentally diagnosed of a uterine PEComa and serial studies of PET-CT with FDG were performed for staging and therapeutic response assessment. FDG PET-CT proved to be a valuable tool for detecting unsuspected pulmonary metastases and defining the reassessment of the patient after chemotherapy.

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and clinical impact of FDG-PET in patients with suspected recurrent ovarian cancer.
METHODS: Between October 2001 and October 2006, we retrospectively studied 49 FDG-PET performed in 40 women (age: 52.4 +/- 12.2 years) with ovarian cancer, who had suspicion of recurrent disease by positive morphologic imaging tests (MIT) or increased tumour markers and negative MIT. BACKGROUND: Of women between 15 and 29 years of age, 13.6% will die from breast cancer. For women between 30 and 64 years of age, 19% will die from breast cancer.
METHODS: We studied 1728 oncological patients and 295 patients were included, 293 with breast cancer (17%) and two patients with primary breast lymphoma (0.1%).
