BACKGROUND/AIMS: Eradication therapy results in the control of gastritis. Little is known about its influence on changes in the topographic distribution and regression of specific mucosal alterations in patients with dyspepsia. Our previous study has shown the complex pathological changes in the cardia, corpus and antrum in patients with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and NUD. To determine the effect of eradication therapy on the development of histological changes in the lower esophagus, cardia, corpus and antrum in patients with nonulcerous dyspepsia, 3 and 6 months after therapy.

A polymerase chain reaction assay (PCR) for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori in human gastric biopsies was developed. To prevent false-negative results while performing PCR on human tissues, an internal control is necessary. Primer set ACT1-ACT2 which specifically amplifies a 542-bp fragment of the 16S rRNA gene of H. pylori was used. dUTP and hot-start were used to prevent false-positives from carryover of previous products and avoid non-specific extension products. Some studies have suggested that low-grade MALT lymphoma may regress after eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. This case report describes a Helicobacter pylori-positive patient with very extensive ulcerated polypoid lesions involving gastric antrum and prepyloric region, diagnosed by histology, pathological analysis and staging procedures as low-grade MALT lymphoma of EI1 stage.
