Great interest is aimed at understanding the inflammatory responses at the level of the central nervous system (CNS), referred to as neuroinflammatory. The environment and the duration of the inflammatory responses are essential factors for comprehending the biochemical and pathophysiological consequences induced by the inflammatory state. Specific inducers of inflammation associated with neurodegenerative disorders can activate inflammatory processes and produce mediators that potentiate neurodegeneration. Immune responders in the brain include microglial cells, astrocytes, and mast cells. A

Radiation-induced intestinal injury significantly impacts the quality of life and even prognosis of patients. Timely diagnosis and accurate assessment are crucial in clinical practice. Imaging examinations play a vital role in the diagnosis and evaluation of radiation-induced intestinal injury. CT offers fast scanning speed and wide coverage but has limited soft tissue resolution. On the other hand, MRI offers superior soft tissue resolution, along with the capability for multi-sequence and multi-parameter imaging, and the ability to assess the effect of tumor treatment. However, its scanning

BACKGROUND: The clinical manifestations of Wilson disease (WD) are related to copper accumulation in the liver and the brain, but little is known about other tissue involvement regarding metabolic changes in WD. In vitro studies suggested that the loss of intestinal ATP7B affects metabolic dysregulation in WD. We tested this hypothesis by evaluating the gut microbiota and lipidome in 2 mouse models of WD and by characterizing a new mouse model with a targeted deletion of Atp7b in the intestine.
METHODS: Cecal content 16S sequencing and untargeted hepatic and plasma lipidome analyses in the Ja

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is more common in women, and many reports of sex differences have been reported in various aspects of RA. However, there has been a lack of specific research on women's gut flora. To assess the association between the gut flora and RA patients, this study combined the microbiome with metabolomics. Fecal samples from RA patients and healthy controls were collected for 16S rRNA sequencing. Nontargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was used to detect metabolites in fecal samples. We comprehensively used various analytical methods to reveal changes in intestinal

The correlation of pre-eclampsia (PE) and intestinal microbiome has been widely demonstrated in existing research, whereas their causal relationship has been rarely explored. The causal relationship between intestinal microbiome and PE risk was examined using large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) summary statistics. To be specific, the causal microbial taxa for PE were identified using the two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) method. The results were verified to be robust through comprehensive sensitive analyses, and the independence of causal relationship was ensured through n

Intestinal failure-associated liver disease (IFALD) is a common hepatobiliary complication resulting from long-term parenteral nutrition (PN) in patients with intestinal failure. The spectrum of IFALD ranges from cholestasis, steatosis, portal fibrosis, to cirrhosis. Development of IFALD is a multifactorial process, in which gut dysbiosis plays a critical role in its initiation and progression in conjunction with increased intestinal permeability, activation of hepatic immune responses, and administration of lipid emulsion. Gut microbiota manipulation including pre/probiotics, fecal microbiota

Magnesium (Mg2+) has an important role in numerous biological functions, and Mg2+ deficiency is associated with several diseases. Therefore, adequate intestinal absorption of Mg2+ is vital for health. The small intestine was previously thought to absorb digested Mg2+ exclusively through an unregulated paracellular mechanism, which is responsible for approximately 90% of total Mg2+ absorption. Recent studies, however, have revealed that the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum absorb Mg2+ through both transcellular and paracellular routes. Several regulatory factors of small intestinal Mg2+ uptake also

Annular pancreas is an uncommon congenital anomaly which is a rare cause of congenital duodenal obstruction. It is normally identified during the neonatal period, but may also be identified in adolescence or adulthood. This diagnosis is often overlooked in adult patients who present with symptoms suggestive of duodenal obstruction. We present a case of AP detected in a 23-year-old man, with complaints of continuous vomiting and abdominal discomfort over the last 6 months. An upper gastrointestinal study revealed a constricted second part of the duodenum. A computed tomography scan revealed a c

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) represent a diverse set of malignancies, originating from the neuroendocrine cells dispersed throughout the body. Their symptoms are associated with the secretion of bioactive peptides by tumor cells. Five-year survival rates depend on the disease stage: 93% for local, 74% for regional, and 19% for metastatic disease. This report describes a case involving a 64-year-old male patient, who was enduring high blood pressure and anemia. His symptomatology included frequent fainting and bloody vomiting without prior bleeding, coupled with persistent abdominal pain and we

BACKGROUND: Intestinal transplantation (IT) and multivisceral transplantation (MVT) are curative therapies for patients with intestinal failure and severe complications associated with total parenteral nutrition. High levels of immunosuppression are required to prevent acute cellular rejection (ACR) from the bowel. Studies regarding pre-treatment, induction, and post-transplant therapy have improved graft acceptance, reducing immunosuppression doses and infectious complications. However, the low rate of IT and MVT and the small number of specialized centers have resulted in a limited number of
