Hypnosis as a Mechanism of Emotion Regulation and Self-Integration: An Integrative Review of Neural, Cognitive, and Experiential Pathways to Fundamental Peace.

Hypnosis has traditionally been conceptualized as a clinical technique for reducing physiological symptoms (e.g., pain, nausea) and psychological symptoms (e.g., anxiety, intrusive thoughts), yet emerging neuroscientific evidence suggests it operates through the fundamental mechanisms of emotional regulation and self-integration. This integrative review synthesizes research on clinical hypnosis from cognitive neuroscience, affective science, and clinical practice to examine how hypnotic phenomena modulate large-scale brain networks-particularly the default mode network (DMN), executive control

An interdisciplinary mixed-methods systematic review of multidimensional factors shaping the outpatient waiting experience.

BACKGROUND: Patient satisfaction is a central indicator of healthcare quality and a key outcome in outpatient care. The waiting room, as the first point of contact, strongly shapes patients' comfort, expectations, and perceptions of service quality. Yet most existing studies remain confined within single disciplinary domains rather than integrated relationships among them. This lack of cross-disciplinary synthesis limits theoretical understanding and practical guidance. A systematic review is therefore needed to develop a comprehensive framework for improving outpatient experiences and support

Advancing gender equity in primary health care: Lessons from integrating gender-responsive strategies into service delivery in Ethiopia.

Gender inequities remain a major barrier to women's access to reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) services. To address this gap, the Improve Primary Health Care Service Delivery (IPHCSD) project integrated a set of gender-responsive strategies into primary health care (PHC) systems. This paper presents lessons from implementing gender-responsive strategies that empowered women and communities while enhancing access to essential health services. A quasi-experimental embedded implementation research with a participatory mixed-methods approach was employed. The study combine

Life Satisfaction and Psychological Distress in Relation to Mediterranean Lifestyle Adherence and Behavioural Correlates: Findings from the MEDIET4ALL International Survey.

Background: Life satisfaction and psychological distress are associated with multiple lifestyle, sleep-related, psychosocial, and sociodemographic factors. However, multinational evidence simultaneously examining these positive and negative psychological dimensions within a comprehensive Mediterranean lifestyle framework remains limited. This study examined correlates of life satisfaction and psychological distress among adults from Mediterranean and neighbouring countries participating in the MEDIET4ALL survey. Methods: Data were collected from 4010 adults (59.5% female) across 10 Mediterrane

Building research capacity and capability to enhance the quality of living and dying addressing advancing frailty through integrated care: the ALLIANCE partnership.

BACKGROUND: Frailty affects around 10% of people aged over 65 years, increasing to 65% of those over 90 years. This number is increasing. Older people with frailty are projected to become the largest future users of care services as they near end of life. Living with frailty increases vulnerability to sudden deterioration, fluctuating capacity and mortality risk. This leads to complex needs, requiring integrated care, and an approach orientated towards living with, as well as dying from, advancing frailty. However, accessing care in a timely manner can be difficult. AIMS: To develop a sustain

Factors Associated With Pediatric Health Care Professionals' Intention to Adopt Socially Assistive Robots: Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Socially assistive robots (SARs) have the potential to support pediatric care; yet, routine clinical adoption remains limited. Because SARs interact directly with children, health care professionals (HCPs) may consider not only clinical utility and usability but also child-robot interaction, trust, and implementation concerns that may not be fully represented by conventional technology acceptance frameworks. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine factors associated with pediatric HCPs' behavioral intention (BI) to adopt SARs and explored how clinical perspectives contextualized co

The Effects of Extreme Climate Events on Healthcare Access, Mental Health, and Economic Stability Among PLHIV in Brazil.

Climate change and HIV are intersecting crises, yet their combined impact on Latin America's HIV care continuum remains understudied. Using a descriptive cross-sectional design with data from the 2024 Brazilian HIV Stigma Index, we examined the consequences of extreme climate events-primarily the May 2024 floods in Porto Alegre-on healthcare access, mental health, and socioeconomic stability among 156 people living with HIV. These events were associated with substantial care disruptions, with many participants reporting rescheduled or canceled medical appointments and laboratory monitoring. Fu

40 Hz light flicker stimulation for neurodegenerative diseases: Mechanisms and clinical perspectives.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a class of disorders characterized by the progressive degeneration and dysfunction of neurons, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). Due to their high incidence rate, irreversible pathological processes and huge social and economic burdens, these diseases have become a major challenge in global public health. Light Flicker Stimulation (LFS), as a non-invasive form of physical therapy, shows significant neuroprotective potential by modulating electrical brain oscillations and particular signaling pathways. We critically examine the role of

Mechanism of AI chatbot anthropomorphism on consumer impulse buying in live streaming scenarios based on SOR framework.

As artificial intelligence (AI) is integrated into real-time e-commerce, it is necessary to study how AI virtual hosts affect consumers' immediate purchase decisions. This research is based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework and explores the psychological mechanism by which the characteristics of AI hosts influence impulsive purchases. The scenario-based experiments show that AI anthropomorphism (ANT) and social conversation cues (SCC) affect impulsive purchases through two mediating states: cognitive trust and emotional arousal. The results indicate that the association betwe

The Social Amplification of Secondary Risk Perceptions: Online Media Attention, Interpersonal Discussion, and Dengue Vaccination Willingness in Singapore.

Drawing on a combined perspective integrating the social amplification of risk framework and secondary risk theory, we examined the ways in which people's online attention and interpersonal discussion shape their perceptions of secondary risks related to the dengue vaccine, as well as how these perceptions subsequently impact their willingness to receive the vaccine. Data were collected through an online survey (N = 1,001) using quota sampling methods. The findings indicated that interpersonal discussions had a positive connection to individuals' perceptions of both the severity and susceptibi

Refining elder protection in Taiwan: from legal protection orders to a specialized Adult Protective Services (APS) framework.

Taiwan's protection orders often fail to adequately protect the elderly because the existing legal framework, primarily designed to address intimate partner violence, overlooks caregiving dependencies. A major systemic barrier is that Taiwan's Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention Centers (DVSCs), the primary local agencies responsible for coordinating elder abuse reports, lack the specialized expertise in elder abuse assessment, cognitive impairment, decision-making capacity, financial exploitation, and multidisciplinary safeguarding found in international Adult Protective Services

Narrative characteristics of women with infertility on social media: a case study of Rednote.

With the rise of digital media, social platforms such as Rednote (Xiaohongshu) have emerged as critical arenas for infertility patients to reconstruct illness perceptions, seek emotional compensation and reclaim their subjectivity. This study identifies the emergence of an 'affective folk knowledge system' through fragmented digital records. Rather than reflecting objective clinical deficiencies, these grass roots narratives highlight a specific perceived gap in psychosocial support from the patients' subjective perspective. Furthermore, the structural absence of male partners in these narrati

The Multicultural turn in psychotherapy: A philosophical and ethical reckoning.

The multicultural and social justice counseling (MSJC) movement has become a defining paradigm in psychotherapy, shaping ethics, training, and practice. While this evolution reflects important strides toward equity and inclusion, it also introduces philosophical tensions, particularly concerning ideological conformity, epistemological overreach, and the marginalization of empirically supported treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This critical position paper examines how Freirean and decolonial frameworks have transformed multiculturalism from a supplemental lens into a domin

Methanol poisoning in pregnancy: A hidden threat in obstetric care.

Maternal methanol poisoning is rare but carries significant risks for both mother and fetus, including metabolic acidosis, visual and neurologic injury, and fetal compromise. Methanol freely crosses the placenta, and fetal metabolism of formate is limited, making the fetus particularly susceptible to hypoxic and metabolic injury. Clinical recognition is challenging due to nonspecific early symptoms, and prompt maternal stabilization with antidotal therapy, folate supplementation, and hemodialysis is critical to prevent irreversible fetal damage. Preventive strategies require a multidimensional

Improvement in psychiatric symptoms after subdural haematoma and decompressive craniotomy.

This case study reports unexpected improvement in psychiatric symptoms following traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a man in his mid-30s with a complex psychiatric history, including autism spectrum disorder, paranoid schizophrenia and a personality disorder. He sustained a left-sided subdural haematoma requiring decompressive craniotomy. Post-surgery, he demonstrated resolution of longstanding hallucinations and self-harming behaviours, enhanced affective regulation and successful tapering of antipsychotic medications, alongside improvement in social and functional abilities. Although such impro

Louse-borne relapsing fever in Ethiopia: an urgent call for WHO recognition as a neglected tropical disease.

Louse-borne relapsing fever (LBRF), caused by Borrelia recurrentis and transmitted by the human body louse, remains a persistent health emergency in Ethiopia, resulting in preventable mortality among young adults. Its continued endemicity reflects systemic failures and amplifies the syndromic effects of poverty, displacement and social stigma-locally termed 'Qmalam'-which deters care-seeking. Clinical management is further complicated by the potentially fatal Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction following antibiotic treatment. Despite these severe consequences, LBRF remains off the official WHO list of

Syndemics, violence and injury: exploring historical relationships between infectious disease epidemics and violent crime in South Africa.

This paper explores historical and contemporary intersections between mass-mortality epidemics and violent crime in South Africa, focusing on four major epidemics - Spanish Flu, tuberculosis, HIV, and Covid-19. The study integrates epidemiological data and contextual historical information such as crime statistics, archival records, and secondary scholarship to explore whether epidemic-driven mortality crises are associated with subsequent changes in violence and injury profiles. With the possible exception of gendered violence, the study finds little evidence that earlier epidemics directly c

From Pressure to Resilience: An Analytic Framework for the Psychosocial Well-Being of Religious Minorities in Authoritarian Contexts.

Religious minorities living under authoritarian governance face unique psychosocial stressors, yet these stressors remain understudied in public health. Using unregistered Protestant churches in China as a case study, this analytic essay examines how state-sponsored marginalization shapes mental health. Integrating public health, sociology of religion, and political science, this article proposes the authoritarian pressure-resilience (APR) framework. The framework combines a socioecological perspective with theories of minority stress and disciplinary power to explain pathways from structural
