Color Perception in Patients with Schizophreniza and Their Healthy First-degree Relatives: A Cross-sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Endophenotypic markers are an important area of study for a better understanding of the biological basis of disorders such as schizophrenia. Our study evaluated color vision as a potential endophenotypic marker in schizophrenia. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study at a tertiary care center with 39 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and 39 healthy first-degree relatives (FDRs). After screening for ocular disorders and color blindness, all participants underwent the Farnsworth-Munsell D-100 test for color perception, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and a symptom s

Hyperbranched Aggregation-Induced Emission Luminogen-Based Sensor Array for Highly Sensitive Discrimination of Multiple Proteins.

Simultaneous discrimination of multiple proteins with high sensitivity is of great importance for point-of-care prediction and diagnosis of diseases. Herein, a fluorescent sensor array with three hyperbranched aggregation-induced emission luminogens as sensing elements is fabricated for the simultaneous discrimination of 15 kinds of proteins with a low limit of detection of 0.05 μM, which is lower than those of most of the reported sensor arrays. The three probes with a symmetrical structure tailored with hydrophilic termini are easy to synthesize and are soluble in aqueous systems. Upon detec

Ethnic Identity Profiles Among Adolescents in the ABCD Study: Associations with Resting State Functional Connectivity and Perceived Discrimination.

Ethnic identity refers to how individuals perceive and experience themselves in the context of social groups, racial background, or culture (Phinney & Ong., 2007). Ethnic identity is positively associated with psychological well-being (Rivas-Drake et al., 2014) and negatively associated with depression and anxiety (Forstmeier et al., 2021). Those with strong ethnic identity may display resiliency to the negative effects of discrimination on psychological well-being (Urzúa et al., 2021). Phinney's model describes four profiles for how people put effort into, participate in, and reflect upon the

Disrupted topological organization of brain connectome in patients with chronic low back related leg pain and clinical correlations.

Chronic pain is associated with persistent alterations in brain structure and function. However, existing research has not fully explored the relationship between brain network topological properties and clinical symptoms in patients with chronic low back-related leg pain (cLBLP). In this study, we collected resting-state functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging data, along with clinical symptom evaluation data, from 32 cLBLP patients and 31 healthy controls. A large-scale complex network analysis was conducted to evaluate the global and nodal topological properties of functional a

Phenotypic profiling of CD34+ cells by advanced flow cytometry improves diagnosis of juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia.

Diagnostic criteria for juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) are currently well defined, however in some patients diagnosis still remains a challenge. Flow cytometry is a well established tool for diagnosis and follow-up of hematological malignancies, nevertheless it is not routinely used for JMML diagnosis. Herewith, we characterized the CD34+ hematopoietic precursor cells collected from 31 children with JMML using a combination of standardized EuroFlow antibody panels to assess the ability to discriminate JMML cells from normal/reactive bone marrow cell as controls (n=29) or from cells of

Analysing vagus nerve spontaneous activity using finite element modelling.

Objective.Finite element modelling has been widely used to understand the effect of stimulation on the nerve fibres. Yet the literature on analysis of spontaneous nerve activity is much scarcer. In this study, we introduce a method based on a finite element model, to analyse spontaneous nerve activity with a typical bipolar electrode recording setup, enabling the identification of spontaneously active fibres. We applied our method to the vagus nerve, which plays a key role in refractory epilepsy.Approach.We developed a 3D model including dynamic action potential (AP) propagation, based on the

The exacerbation of violence against women as a form of discrimination in the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The crisis provoked by COVID-19 has rapidly and profoundly affected Latin America. The impacts are seen not only in infection and mortality rates, but also in the economic decline and increased inequality that plague the region, problems which have been exacerbated as a result of the pandemic. Women, in particular, constitute one of the groups most heavily impacted by the pandemic, facing higher rates of unemployment and furloughing due to structural discrimination and a subsequent increase in economic dependency as they are forced to return to traditional unremunerated occupations like caregi
