Myasthenia Gravis: Novel Findings and Perspectives on Traditional to Regenerative Therapeutic Interventions.

The prevalence of myasthenia gravis (MG), an autoimmune disorder, is increasing among all subsets of the population leading to an elevated economic and social burden. The pathogenesis of MG is characterized by the synthesis of autoantibodies against the acetylcholine receptor (AChR), low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 4 (LRP4), or muscle-specific kinase at the neuromuscular junction, thereby leading to muscular weakness and fatigue. Based on clinical and laboratory examinations, the research is focused on distinguishing MG from other autoimmune, genetic diseases of neuromuscular

Supervised Exercise Training for Chronic Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is one of the most common forms of heart failure; its prevalence is increasing, and outcomes are worsening. Affected patients often experience severe exertional dyspnea and debilitating fatigue, as well as poor quality of life, frequent hospitalizations, and a high mortality rate. Until recently, most pharmacological intervention trials for HFpEF yielded neutral primary outcomes. In contrast, trials of exercise-based interventions have consistently demonstrated large, significant, clinically meaningful improvements in symptoms, objectively

Homozygous Mutations in Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) in Hypothyroidism with Intellectual Disability, Developmental Delay, and Hearing and Ocular Anomalies in Two Families: Severe Manifestation of Untreated TPO-deficiency Poses a Diagnostic Dilemma.

Intellectual disability (ID) involves compromised intellectual, learning and cognitive skills, and behavioral capabilities with reduced psychomotor skills. One of the preventable causes of ID is congenital hypothyroidism (CH), which may be due to biallelic mutations in thyroid peroxidase (TPO). In low- and middle-income countries with no newborn screening programs, CH poses a great risk of ID and long-term morbidity. We report two large Pakistani families with a total of 16 patients afflicted with CH. Detailed clinical and behavioral assessments, SNP-based homozygosity mapping, linkage analysi

Metagenome-wide association study of gut microbiome revealed potential microbial marker set for diagnosis of pediatric myasthenia gravis.

BACKGROUND: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an acquired immune-mediated disorder of the neuromuscular junction that causes fluctuating skeletal muscle weakness and fatigue. Pediatric MG and adult MG have many different characteristics, and current MG diagnostic methods for children are not quite fit. Previous studies indicate that alterations in the gut microbiota may be associated with adult MG. However, it has not been determined whether the gut microbiota are altered in pediatric MG patients. METHODS: Our study recruited 53 pediatric MG patients and 46 age- and gender-matched healthy controls (H
