Cell proliferation in the cochleae of guinea pigs and rats was investigated after systemic application of kanamycin sulfate (KM) and ethacrynic acid (EA). AIM OF THE STUDY: To define the role of harmonic imaging in the study of biliary lithiasis.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: We included 50 consecutive patients with suspected biliary lithiasis. Three independent observers compared results of harmonic imaging and conventional ultrasonography.

The paper presents the follow-up data on 39 patients who underwent microsurgical removal of pineal tumors. Computerized and magnetic resonance tomographies were performed prior to and following the removal of pineal tumor. Otoneurological symptoms were analyzed in their dynamics in 32 patients in the early postoperative period (up to 20 days) and in 6 patients in the late period (1 to 5 years) after radiation therapy. The Nd:YAG laser was used between January 1989 and March 1991 in 63 cases of intracranial tumours, including 32 meningiomas, 16 gliomas (including 11 glioblastomas), 8 acoustic neurinomas, 11 metastatic brain tumours. Two forms of neurofibromatosis are currently described. Von Reckinghausen Neurofibromatosis (NF 1) is the classic and common form, recently localised to chromosome 17. Preliminary evaluation of 2 related computer-based speech training and practice aids for profoundly deaf children was conducted. The Speech Training Station (STS) uses both acoustic and physiological transducters for assessment and training in a school of clinic. The values of the individual audiological and vestibular examination methods in multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis are discussed. Our experience shows that the most accurate indications are provided by acoustic stapedius reflex, brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) and vestibular investigation. Other testing processes play only a minor part. Using the three methods mentioned, brainstem injuries can be shown to be present at an early stage.
