We report ocular findings of a patient with anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) and cilioretinal artery occlusion in a female carrier of Fabry's disease. Fluorescein angiography revealed delayed filling of the upper and temporal part of peripapillary choroidal vessels and capillaries of the right optic disk and late filling of the cilioretinal artery. CT scanning was performed several times in early stages and demonstrated thickening of the intraorbital optic nerve due to ischemic edema. Expression of mRNA for transforming growth factor alpha (TGF-alpha) and TGF-beta 1 during the fetal development of mice was evaluated by in situ hybridization. TGF-alpha mRNA was detected in 9- and 10-day fetuses but was absent in older fetuses. TGF-alpha mRNA-containing cells were found in the placenta, otic vesicle, oral cavity, pharyngeal pouch, first and second branchial arches, and developing kidneys. mRNA for TGF-beta 1 was present in hematopoietic cells of blood islands and capillaries and in the liver as it began to bud off on day 10 and function as a hematopoietic organ.

Capillary basement membrane (BM) abnormalities are known to be a feature of the muscle pathology of progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS), but the relation of such an abnormality to clinical disease is uncertain. BACKGROUND: Lesions of the posterior segment of the medial meniscus are the most common intraarticular lesions associated with ACL injuries. Ramp lesions are tears in the peripheral attachment of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. Such injuries are difficult to detect on preoperative MRI. Arthroscopically, the prevalence of these lesions can reach 24%.
