UNLABELLED: Displaced proximal humeral fractures in older children with low remodeling potential need to be reduced and fixed. There are many options for stabilization, including external fixation, rigid internal fixation with screws and plates, percutaneous pinning, and flexible intramedullary nailing. OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of treatment and develop an algorithm for management of nonunions of the femoral diaphysis.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective.
SETTING: University hospital.
METHODS: Forty-four patients treated at one institution for nonunion of the femoral diaphysis were studied. Thirteen of these patients had a history of infection. UNLABELLED: Nine patients were treated for complex tibial pilon and talus fractures or non unions from 1990 to 1997 using intramedullary nails introduced through the calcaneus. Skewfoot is a rare deformity characterized by forefoot adduction and hindfoot valgus. Its etiology and natural history are unknown, although congenital and syndromic forms are observed. Currently, there is no consent about the treatment of skewfoot. Due to its potential resistance to the effects of therapy, it must be differentiated from other, more common deformities.
