Anticancer drugs rarely cause strokes. We report the case of a woman treated for a kidney cancer by IL2 and IFN alpha, having developed multiple strokes associated with a livedo. The responsibility of IL2 and IFN alpha seemed likely. The association with a transitory livedo suggested that the pathological process might be a cerebral angiopathy with arterial vasospasms.

A pattern of aberrations in the T-cell cytokine system that is typical for autoimmune disorders has also been reported in patients with schizophrenia, namely a decreased interleukin-2 (IL-2) production and increased levels of the soluble IL-2 receptor (sIL-2R). It has also been reported that the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) may be lowered. In a longitudinal design, we studied the production of both IFN-gamma and IL-2 and their correlation in patients with schizophrenia during treatment and investigated whether associations exist between cytokine production and clinical variables.

BACKGROUND: It is not known whether cagA+ Helicobacter pylori in duodenal ulcer (DU) have enhanced virulence compared with non-DU cagA+ H pylori.
AIMS: To investigate the relation between presentation, H pylori density, interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta) and IL-8 production, and cagA status.
METHODS: Fifty DU and 50 gastritis patients with cagA+ H pylori and 11 with cagA- infections were studied. Bacterial density and cytokine production were assessed using the same biopsies. Cytokine production was also measured from supernatants of medium following coculture of H pylori with MKN-45 cells.

We here examined the role of the interleukin-6 (IL-6) family of cytokines in endothelin-1 (ET-1)-induced hypertrophic responses using cultured cardiac myocytes of neonatal rats.
