BACKGROUND: CLOVES syndrome is associated with somatic mosaic PIK3CA mutations and characterized by congenital lipomatous overgrowth, vascular malformations, epidermal nevi, and skeletal anomalies. Wilms tumor (WT) is a malignant embryonal renal neoplasm associated with hemihypertrophy and certain overgrowth disorders. After identifying WT in a child with CLOVES, we questioned whether ultrasonographic screening was necessary in these patients.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed patients with CLOVES syndrome in our Vascular Anomalies Center at Boston Children's Hospital between 1998 and 2016

Approximately one of every 10 women has a pigmented vulvar lesion. Given the risk of melanomas and pigmented vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (squamous cell carcinoma in situ), proper evaluation of vulvar pigmented lesions is critical. Most vulvar lesions are benign; however, vulvar lesions grossly, dermoscopically, and histologically can appear atypical compared with pigmented lesions on the rest of the body. Thus, it is imperative to use not only a keen eye but also a low threshold for biopsy.

This clinical report describes the prosthodontic rehabilitation of an edentulous patient with compromised maxillary and mandibular anatomy, caused by the resection of several odontogenic keratocysts associated with nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome. Preprosthetic surgical preparation included iliac crest bone grafting to both arches and placement of implants. Prosthodontic treatment included the fabrication of maxillary and mandibular dental implant-supported connecting bars and construction of attachment-retained overdentures.

We report seven patients who developed malignant melanoma either coincident with or before the diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma or chronic lymphatic leukaemia. One patient died secondary to leukaemia, and chemotherapy-induced immunosuppression may have contributed to the development of metastatic melanoma in another patient. Immunosuppression, exposure to ultraviolet radiation and genetic factors may result in a host environment that is conducive to the development of both tumours in these patients.

By the peroxidase-antiperoxidase technique, the authors studied 7 malignant choroidal melanomas, 7 conjunctival nevi and 1 malignant conjunctival melanoma with the aim to detect the presence of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), gastrin, estradiol and testosterone. Positive staining reaction for VIP, estradiol and testosterone was observed in both malignant melanomas of the choroid and conjunctival nevi.
