Anal fissure is a common problem which can evolve to chronicity. Chronic anal fissure is thought to be an ischemic ulceration related to sphincter hypertonia. The photostability of diltiazem was studied in aqueous solutions at different pH values. Firstly, the hydrolysis of the drug to desacetyldiltiazem in alkaline medium was evaluated and then the drug photodegradation under exposure to UVA-UVB radiation (solar simulator) was monitored by HPLC methods. BACKGROUND: Hypertension may be associated with intussusception.
CASE REPORT: An 8-month-old infant showed the following symptoms: lethargy, vomiting and hypertension. Abdominal ultrasound suggested the diagnosis of intussusception, which was confirmed by barium enema. The hypertension resolved after the intussusception was reduced.
CONCLUSION: Intussusception should be considered a diagnostic possibility in infants who show a history of vomiting and in whom lethargy and systematic hypertension are noted. This case re-affirms the diagnostic usefulness of abdominal ultrasonography.

In a previous work, our group reported that Albino Swiss male mice inoculated with T. cruzi to develop acute lethal infection by day 15 decreased parasitemia and survived when treated with total brain gangliosides (GT; 1 mg, daily). We present an example of adenomatoid serous lobular hyperplasia of the sublingual gland. Pathologic examination revealed the lesion was composed of multiple aggregates of normal-appearing serous and mucous acini that varied in size. The ratio of serous gland to mucous glands was 7 to 1. We cannot identify the cause of this condition, however, calcium channel blocking agents prescribed for the treatment of this patient's essential hypertension cannot be ruled out as a pathogenetic factor in the development of the lesion.

UNLABELLED: The effect of verapamil treatment on the myocardial beta-adrenergic adenylyl cyclase complex in acute canine Chagas' disease was investigated. Relative to uninfected animals, 30 days of infection with T. cruzi reduced myocardial adenylyl cyclase activity by over 75%. Calcium channel-blocking agents are used extensively for the management of cardiovascular conditions, including angina pectoris, coronary artery spasm, cardiac arrhythmias, and hypertension. Gingival overgrowth around natural teeth has been previously reported in the literature with patients taking calcium channel-blocking agents. This clinical report describes hyperplasia of tissues around titanium dental implants in a patient taking Nifedipine along with the multiphasic approach to treating this medication-induced hyperplasia of the peri-implant tissues.
