Comprehensive Genomic Analysis of Antimicrobial Resistance in Aeromonas dhakensis.

Aeromonas dhakensis is prevalent in aquatic environments in Taiwan and known for its notable antimicrobial resistance. However, comprehensive pan-genomic studies for this species in Taiwan are limited. This study analyzed 28 clinical A. dhakensis isolates using single-molecule real-time sequencing technology, coupled with diverse databases, to elucidate the whole genomes. The focus was on phylogenetic relatedness, antimicrobial resistance genes, and mobile genetic elements. Genomic analysis and multilocus sequence typing were utilized to identify A. dhakensis strains of heterogeneous origins.

Causal effects of long-term air pollution exposure on age-independent longitudinal hippocampal atrophy: A Mendelian randomization study.

Given the established association between air pollution and central nervous system disorders, particularly the well-characterized link between hippocampal volume and neurodegenerative pathologies, this study aimed to elucidate the causal impact of ambient air pollutants on hippocampal volume changes over time. We employed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) method to analyze genome-wide association study data on longitudinal hippocampal volume changes from publicly available databases, as well as air pollution data. The primary analytical approach used was an inverse variance-weighted me

Hailey-Hailey disease successfully treated with naloxone: 2 case reports and Review of the literature on efficacy of opioid receptor antagonist in Hailey-Hailey disease patients.

BACKGROUND: Hailey-Hailey disease (HHD), a genetic blistering disease, is caused by a mutation in a calcium transporter protein in the Golgi apparatus encoded by the ATP2C1 gene. Clinically, HHD is characterized by flaccid vesicles, blisters, erosions, fissures, and maceration mainly in intertriginous regions. Some patients remain refractory to conventional treatments. Previously, a series of reports have confirmed naltrexone as an effective option for those patients. However, in China, naltrexone is unavailable in some hospitals and unaffordable for some patients. OBJECTIVE: To confirm nalox

Primary Pericardial Synovial Sarcoma: A Case Series and Review of Literature.

Primary pericardial synovial sarcoma (PPSS) is a rare and aggressive cancer that arises from pluripotent mesenchymal cells of the pericardium. The pathognomonic genetic hallmark is the chromosomal translocation t(X;18)(p11;q11), resulting in the SS18-SSX fusion oncogene, which, down the line, disrupts transcription regulation and chromatin remodeling, ultimately leading to carcinogenesis. In our article, we describe two cases of PPSS in previously healthy young men, managed with multidisciplinary teams, along with a review of the literature of cases reported to date. Both of our patients are y

Developing a phenotype risk score for tic disorders in a large, clinical biobank.

Tics are a common feature of early-onset neurodevelopmental disorders, characterized by involuntary and repetitive movements or sounds. Despite affecting up to 2% of children and having a genetic contribution, the underlying causes remain poorly understood. In this study, we leverage dense phenotype information to identify features (i.e., symptoms and comorbid diagnoses) of tic disorders within the context of a clinical biobank. Using de-identified electronic health records (EHRs), we identified individuals with tic disorder diagnosis codes. We performed a phenome-wide association study (PheWA
