Development and implementation of IT require focus on user participation, acceptance and workflow.

The study "Online Care" follows a municipal project "Online Welfare" where a nurse's presence in the citizen's own home was replaced by online communication. The paper is based on a citizen's perspective and seeks to develop meaningful workflow for the benefit of citizens with medical problems. The study examines five citizens' opinions on whether online communication in a meaningful way supports the citizens in what they associate with a good life. In addition, relatives and the citizen's nurse were interviewed individually concerning the same issues as the citizens. The study has been approv

Current cervical cancer screening knowledge, awareness, and practices among U.S. affiliated pacific island providers: opportunities and challenges.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer mortality in nearly all U.S. Affiliated Pacific Island Jurisdictions (USAPIJ); however, most jurisdictions are financially and geographically limited in their capacity to deliver routine screening. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of 72 health care providers from five of the six USAPIJ in 2011 to assess knowledge, beliefs, practices, and perceived barriers regarding routine cervical cancer screening. We compared the responses of providers from jurisdictions that were funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

A randomized trial of a diet and exercise intervention for overweight and obese women from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods: Sisters Taking Action for Real Success (STARS).

BACKGROUND: Lower socioeconomic status at both the individual and neighborhood level is associated with increased health risks. Weight loss can reduce this risk, but few high quality weight-loss studies target this population. OBJECTIVES: STARS tests a culturally appropriate, group-based behavioral and social support intervention on body weight and waist circumference in women from financially disadvantaged neighborhoods. DESIGN: A stratified (by BMI) randomized trial. Randomization to group was generated by a random numbers table with allocation concealment by opaque envelopes. METHODS: Pa

Private-sector vaccine purchase costs and insurer payments: a disincentive for using combination vaccines?

IMPORTANCE: Premature infants are not prepared developmentally, physically, or cognitively with the multiple survival skills of the typical newborn. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether physical activity generated spontaneously by premature infants stretching against the resistance of "prepod" garments is as effective as exercises provided by therapists in slowing bone density loss. DESIGN: Preterm very low birth weight infants were placed in two nonrandomized parallel groups according to birth age. SETTING: Infants routinely started in a traditional intense intervention setting and graduated to

Hurdles at work: perceptions of hospital food handlers.

BACKGROUND: Food handlers have a very important role in preventing food contamination during its preparation and distribution. This responsibility is even greater in hospitals, since a large number of patients have low immunity and consequently food contamination by pathogenic bacteria could be particularly harmful. Therefore, a good working environment and periodic training should be provided to food handlers by upper management. METHODS: This study is qualitative research by means of focus group and thematic content analysis methodologies to examine, in detail, the statements by food handle

It's so hard to be fair.

When employees believe they are being treated fairly-when they feel heard, when they understand how and why important decisions are made, and when they believe they are respected-their companies will benefit. Research shows that practicing process fairness reduces legal costs from wrongful-termination suits, lowers employee turnover, helps generate support for new strategic initiatives, and fosters a culture that promotes innovation. What's more, it costs little financially to implement Yet few companies practice it consistently. Joel Brockner examines this paradox, exploring psychological and

Removing Tuition Dependency From Dental Education: Consensus Recommendations on Student Debt, Sustainability, and Pathway Reform.

BACKGROUND: The current financing model for US dental education is increasingly misaligned with the goals of sustainability, equity, and workforce design. Tuition has risen substantially over time, educational debt among dental graduates remains high, and evidence suggests that price affects enrollment decisions and student diversity. High debt may also constrain career choice, reducing graduates' flexibility to pursue academic, hospital-based, public-serving, and safety-net careers. At the same time, major reform reports across the past century have repeatedly argued that dental education mus

How Do People Who Smoke Respond to Novel Tobacco Pack Warnings? Two Cross-Sectional Studies from Aotearoa New Zealand.

INTRODUCTION: On-pack pictorial warning labels (PWLs) typically feature graphic health risks of smoking. We examined whether expanding the themes featured could increase PWLs' potential effectiveness. METHODS: We conducted two online studies: an assessment survey (n = 783) and a discrete choice experiment (DCE) (n = 970) to estimate the impact of price, health, family, and addiction warning themes. Assessment survey respondents rated the likely effect on smoking and quitting-related behaviors of 12 warning images. DCE respondents saw eight sets of four PWLs that combined images and headlines

Optimising Health Literacy and Access (Ophelia) in Florence, Italy: a cluster analysis to guide cardiovascular prevention among perimenopausal and postmenopausal women in a vulnerable urban setting.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular risk increases markedly in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women and social disadvantage can intensify barriers to prevention. In these settings, limited health literacy may further restrict women's ability to understand cardiovascular risk, access appropriate services and translate advice into daily behaviours-potentially widening inequalities. OBJECTIVES: This study investigated health literacy profiles among perimenopausal and postmenopausal women living in a socioeconomically vulnerable urban area of Florence, Italy, and examined how these profiles may guide l

Online patient education resources in bariatric surgery: a systematic evaluation of quality, readability, transparency, and representation.

BACKGROUND: The internet has become a central and increasingly influential source of health information for patients around the world. Patients commonly use the internet to seek information about specific treatments and to connect with others with similar health concerns. However, the quality, reliability, and integrity of online health information resources remain a concern as many websites often lack quality control, peer review, or compliance with up-to-date guidelines. We aimed to evaluate the quality and readability of online information regarding bariatric surgery. METHODS: A web-based

Forced migration and human trafficking: survivors' narratives of strength and survival upon first arrival in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Human trafficking poses a major public health challenge to the international community, with significant health and social consequences for those affected. Forced migrants are particularly vulnerable to becoming victims of human trafficking due to language barriers and migration-related hardships. These include social and economic deprivation. To better understand the lived experiences within this already vulnerable group, it is essential to examine individual cases in relation to risk factors, experiences of exploitation and exit, and resilience. METHODS: Using a qualitative appr

Narrative Review: Telemedicine for Reducing Travel-Related Out-of-Pocket Costs Among Hong Kong Urological Patients and a Customized Tiered Consultation Pathway.

PURPOSE: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted routine urological outpatient services in Hong Kong, imposing disproportionate travel burdens on outlying island and cross-border patients who rely on multi-stage ferry and bus journeys. Globally, existing teleurology cost evidence is dominated by Western private-vehicle models, and to date no peer-reviewed review has investigated teleurology cost outcomes in Hong Kong. This narrative review addresses this regional research gap by synthesizing international evidence and proposing a tiered workflow aligned with the Hospital Authority's 2022-2027 Smart Ca
