This report contains the clinical, histologic, immunohistochemical, and electron microscopic findings in two cases of equine cutaneous leishmaniasis. Nodular, sometimes crusty or ulcerated lesions were confined to the pinna and adjacent neck in both animals. From a review of a series of 1,474 intracranial tumors occurring in children, we identified 49 patients (3.3%) with primary intracranial germ cell tumors: 65% germinomatous, 26% nongerminomatous (8 teratomas, 3 endodermal sinus, and 2 choriocarcinomas), and 8 degrees 10 mixed. A collagen membrane with microscopic order is presented. The membranes were produced with acid-soluble collagen, using two different methods to obtain orientation. The product was characterized by mean of UV and IR spectra, scanning electronic microscopy, optical microscopy and laser diffractometry. The results clearly show a high level of order in the membranes obtained by both techniques. Permeability for rifamycin, ascorbic acid and NaCl was also measured. Due to the characteristics of the membranes, they have a potential application for treatment of surface injuries.

Dentin responds to different alterations in the enamel with hypermineralization, and is a biomarker of fluoride exposure. We hypothesized that severe fluorosis would lead to hypermineralization of the dentin when the enamel was severely affected. We report a case of oculoskeletal myopathy with abnormal mitochondria in which the chief clinical feature was ophthalmoplegia. Muscle weakness was mild and there were no retinal or cerebellar abnormalities, no deafness and no cardiac defects. The muscle biopsy specimen revealed subsarcolemmal mitochondrial aggregates and ragged red fibers. Electronmicroscopy showed that the aggregates were made up of mitochondria of variable size with structural abnormalities of the cristae and crystalloid inclusions. We believe that this oculoskeletal myopathy is distinct from Kearn-Sayre syndrome.
