This report assessed the results of allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) in 26 patients with Shwachman-Diamond disease (SDS) and severe bone marrow abnormalities. A 12-yr-old girl with end-stage renal disease secondary to primary hyperoxaluria type I received a living related (left lateral segment) liver transplant from her brother as the first step of a staged liver and kidney transplant. We have analyzed the kinetics of reconstitution of circulating dendritic cell (DC) subsets (myeloid-DC1 and lymphoid-DC2) in 19 patients affected by acute leukemia undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT). Two patients with disseminated mantle-cell lymphoma relapsed 24 and 13 months, respectively, after high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation (autoSCT). The shortage of cadaver kidneys available for organ donation compared to growing demand has led to an increase in the use of living-unrelated donors (LURD) for renal transplantation (Tx).
