The urinary retention is rather banal during the postpartum: 0.45 to 17.9% and now we know the main risk factors: duration of labour, epidural, episiotomy. Diagnosed on time, the postpartum-urinary retention will not have any consequence; on the other hand, a delay in care can lead to a persisting urinary retention with possible long-term urinary sequels. This article, based on two cases reports and a literature review, shows the heterogeneity in medical care of the postpartum-urinary retention.

AIM: We report the 5-year interval change in voiding function of orthotopic ileal neobladder.
METHODS: Voiding function was evaluated at two points with an interval of 5 years in 49 patients with orthotopic ileal neobladder. The first and second surveys were performed in May, 1998 (1998 survey) and in April 2003 (2003 survey), respectively. Median age at operation was 67 years, ranging 47-77. Median follow-up times at the first and the second surveys were 19.5 months (range, 3-87) and 67.5 months (range, 62-145), respectively.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the long-term continence rate, subjective satisfaction and treatment-associated morbidity in a carefully selected group of patients undergoing Stamey bladder neck suspension.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We studied 24 women with objectively validated genuine stress urinary incontinence (GSI) who were treated using the Stamey needle colposuspension method. Follow-up was performed by means of a questionnaire, a urodynamic assessment and a new standardized quantification test. Time to follow-up ranged from 28 to 100 months (mean 63 months).

Urologists often manage patients with neurogenic voiding dysfunction. These patients often have neuropathic bowel dysfunction. The malone antegrade continence enema (ACE) performed synchronously with a urinary continence procedure has been successful in pediatric patients. We report preliminary experience combining the ACE with a urinary continence procedure in two adult neurogenic patients. The ACE procedure is technically easy. Both patients had a separate urinary stoma and an appendicocecostomy for their ACE. Both patients are continent of stool at their appendicocecostomy and per rectum. B

We report the results of experimental and clinical studies in which a de-epithelialized segment of sigmoid colon was used to cover the bladder dome where the mucosa was exposed (auto-augmentation) to increase bladder capacity. Experimentally, the technique was performed in 10 healthy female mongrel dogs and the intestinal segments established continuity perfectly over the exposed bladder mucosa. Urine cultures and antibody-coated bacteria (ACB) tests were performed on urine specimens from 176 spinal cord injured patients at the time of annual renal function follow-up. Sixty-nine percent of the cultures were positive; and of these, 55% were positive for ACB.
