BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Diet is one of the major determinants of the composition and function of the gut microbiome, and diverse studies have established directional connections between gut microbiome dysbiosis and skin dyshomeostasis. Furthermore, a significant link between the gut and certain skin-related disorders has been reported. This work reviews the mechanisms underlying the relationship between nutritional factors, gut microbiome, and certain skin diseases such as acne vulgaris, alopecia, and atopic dermatitis. In addition, it explores how the modulation of the gut microbiome and human…

Digital dermatitis is a disease of the digital skin and causes lameness and welfare problems in dairy cattle. This study assessed the local and systemic inflammatory responses of cows with different digital dermatitis lesions and compared macroscopical and histological findings. Cow feet (n = 104) were evaluated macroscopically and skin biopsies histologically. Serum samples were analyzed for acute phase proteins (serum amyloid A and haptoglobin) and pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-1 beta, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha). Cows with macroscopically graded active lesions …

(1) Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most common inflammatory skin conditions, thus having a significant impact on the quality of life (QoL) of patients and their families. We performed a survey to gather more data to help describe the burden of AD in Lithuania and to help expand the treatment plan to this important aspect of the disease. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving healthy and AD pediatric patients. The assessment instruments used were the Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM), QoL, and original questionnaires (the original questionnaire was d…

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin condition. One of the most common skin disorders in children, atopic dermatitis typically manifests before the age of 5 years, but it can develop at any age. Atopic dermatitis is characterised by dry, inflamed skin accompanied by intense itchiness (pruritus).
OBJECTIVES: To appraise the clinical and cost effectiveness of abrocitinib, tralokinumab and upadacitinib within their marketing authorisations as alternative therapies for treating moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis compared to systemic immunosuppressants (first-li…

BACKGROUND: To prevent incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) and manage the treatment, the cause of IAD must be determined correctly and distinguished from other skin problems. IAD can be prevented with professional care.
AIM: This systematic review aims to systematically examine the methods used in the prevention and treatment of urinary incontinence-associated dermatitis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The PRISMA-P (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols) criteria were taken as the basis for creating the systematic review protocol and writing the article. In…

Paradoxical reactions to biologic agents used in the treatment of psoriasis are rare but have been reported with tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blockers and, more recently, with interleukin (IL)-17A inhibitors. Secukinumab, an IL-17A inhibitor, is an effective treatment for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis but has been implicated in the development or exacerbation of eczematous-like reactions in rare cases. We present a patient with a history of plaque psoriasis who developed an eczematous eruption after four months of secukinumab therapy, necessitating systemic intervention for adequate contr

Superficial granulomatous pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare, superficial, vegetating form of pyoderma gangrenosum that tends to occur as a single lesion, most commonly on the trunk. Herein, we report a clinically confounding case of disseminated superficial granulomatous pyoderma gangrenosum in a patient with a 5-year history of painful and chronic ulcerations of the bilateral upper extremities and face in a sun exposed distribution. This was a diagnostically challenging case due to the treatment-refractory nature of our patient's skin lesions and the atypical clinical and histologic presentation

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent inflammatory skin condition impacting both children and adults globally, with a prevalence of 15-30%. It ranks as the most prevalent skin disorder based on disability-adjusted life-years by the World Health Organization. It presents with symptoms like skin irritation, redness, dryness, itchiness, and vesicular blisters and commonly coexists with other atopic symptoms like allergic rhinitis, asthma, and food allergies. The pathophysiology involves a complex interplay of genetic predispositions, immunological dysfunctions, and environmental factors leading t…
