Application of internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy for negative emotions in pregnant women: a narrative review.

During the gestational period, pregnant women commonly experience negative emotional states including anxiety, depression, and childbirth fear, which are induced by dramatic physiological and psychological changes. These negative emotional disturbances not only damage maternal physical and mental health, but also may increase the risk of adverse fetal outcomes and long-term developmental abnormalities in offspring. Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) is a psychological intervention modality developed on the basis of cognitive behavioral theory and delivered through network platf…

Validation of the Arabic Dementia Diagnosis Attitude Scale (A-DDAS).

INTRODUCTION: Culturally appropriate scales are needed to efficiently assess stigma among Arabic-speaking communities. This study aimed to v … d via Cronbach α. RESULTS: The final 10-item scale consisted of two factors with five items each: "fear of labelling" (α = 0.88) and "fear of discrimination" (α = 0.85), with inter-factor correlation r = 0.51 and high reliability (α = 0.87). DISCUSSION: The A-DDAS yielded good validity and reliability scores, confirming its suitability for use with A …

Neuropeptide signaling and the blood-brain barrier generate a persistent stress-induced internal state in Drosophila.

Although fear conditioning has elucidated cue-evoked acute fear responses, the mechanisms by which stress experiences induce generalized internal states linked to anxiety or phobia are poorly understood. Here, we report that robust stress induces a persistent behavioral change characterized by avoidance of a confined space, claustrophobia-like behavior (CLB) in Drosophila. Unlike aversive memory formation, the development of CLB does not require dopamine receptors. Our neuronal screening determined that neuropeptide signaling via Allatostatin-A inactivates the downstream neurons via its recept…

Fertility concerns among people living with HIV: a systematic review and meta-synthesis.

This meta-synthesis systematically reviewed qualitative studies on fertility concerns among people living with HIV (PLWH) to inform targeted interventions. A systematic search of PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Cochrane, and Embase was conducted from inception to October 15, 2025. Synthesizing 76 extracted themes from 18 studies revealed 11 subthemes organized into three overarching dimensions: biological (fear of transmission, health decline), psychological (shock, chronic distress, internalized stigma, reproductive ambivalence), and social (externalized stigma, economic constraints, policy/n…

A study of positive and negative factors associated with tapering off methadone maintenance treatment.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Evidence on factors associated with successful methadone tapering in India is limited. This study aims to identify posit … ignificantly higher taper rates than those who remained abstinent (6.4 vs. 3.3 mg/week; P = 0.039). Fear of relapse, withdrawal symptoms, family instability, economic instability, and fear of death were common barriers to tapering. CONCLUSION: Successful tapering was associated with lower baseline methadone dose, slower taper rate, lower withdrawal se …

Effectiveness of movement representation techniques in non-specific shoulder pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to assess the effects of movement representation techniques (MRT) on pain, range of motion, functional outcomes, and pain-related fear in patients with non-specific shoulder pain (NSSP). A literature search conducted in PubMed, PEDro, EBSCO, Scopus, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, and gray literature on April 31, 2023. We selected seven randomized controlled trials based on the PICOS framework. Incomplete data or non-NSSP excluded. Study quality was assessed using the PEDro scale (mean score = 6.43), and certainty of evidence was evaluated with th…

Spinosin ameliorates post-traumatic stress disorder-like behaviors via 5-HT1A receptor in mice.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe mental illness characterized by increased arousal, intrusion, avoidance, and negative cognitive alterations following exposure to fatal stresses or psychological trauma. In this study, we explored the ameliorating effects of spinosin on PTSD-like behaviors in PTSD model mice induced by single prolonged stress (SPS). A single dose of spinosin (3 mg/kg, p.o.) ameliorated PTSD-like behaviors as assessed using the elevated plus-maze test, marble burying test, Y-maze test, tail suspension test, and fear extinction test. Furthermore, we discovered th…

Learning induces persistent chromatin loops underlying robust gene expression during memory recall.

Long-term memories are stored in neuronal ensembles called engrams, but the existence of persistent molecular traces in nuclei of engram neurons remain unknown. Using activity-dependent nuclear tagging in vivo, we profiled higher-order chromatin folding and DNA methylation in thousands of single hippocampal neurons up to a month after contextual fear conditioning (CFC). We find CFC-induced chromatin loop plasticity genome-wide, including persistently gained and lost loops with enduring traces in vivo. DNA methylation showed minimal CFC-induced persistence at promoters and enhancers. Persistent…

Understanding (and appreciating) behavioral complexity of zebrafish novel tank assays.

Zebrafish are rapidly becoming an important model organism in neurobehavioral research. The novel tank diving test is commonly used for asse … alue of this assay for modeling a broad spectrum of brain phenomena, including generalized anxiety, fear, panic-like, post-traumatic stress- and depression-like behavior. Overall, the emerging behavioral complexity of the novel tank test extends beyond the traditional dichotomic conflict between fear and exploration, likely reflecting multiple overlapp …

The Worst Pain Is an Unexplained Pain.

SYNOPSIS: Musculoskeletal (MSK) pain, especially when the reason for the pain is unexplained, is often associated with distress, fear, reduced self-efficacy, and cycles of medicalization. Pathoanatomical diagnoses, based on clinical tests and imaging, have a weak correlation between structural findings and pain, and fail to explain why something hurts. This Viewpoint advocates for nonpathoanatomical functional diagnoses or classifications and practical, relatable explanations for patients with pain without a definitive pathoanatomical cause-what some might call a person-centered model of care.…

Spatial transcriptomics reveals modulation of transcriptional networks across brain regions after auditory threat conditioning.

Prior research has demonstrated genome-wide transcriptional changes related to fear and anxiety across species, often focusing on individual brain regions or cell types. However, the extent of gene expression differences across brain regions and how these changes interact at the level of transcriptional connectivity remains unclear. To address this, we performed spatial transcriptomics RNAseq analyses in an auditory threat conditioning paradigm in mice. We generated a spatial transcriptomic atlas of a coronal mouse brain section covering cortical and subcortical regions, corresponding to histo…

The Effects of Vaccine Efficacy Information on Vaccination Intentions Through Perceived Response Efficacy and Hope.

Response efficacy information indicating the effectiveness of a recommended behavior in risk reduction is an important component of health communication. For example, many messages regarding COVID-19 vaccines featured numerical vaccine efficacy rates in preventing infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. While the relationship between disease risk perceptions and fear has been well established, we know less about the psychological factors involved in communicating vaccine efficacy information, such as response efficacy perceptions and hope. This study examines the effects of numerical vaccine…

Mast cell deficiency improves cognition and enhances disease-associated microglia in 5XFAD mice.

Emerging evidence suggests that peripheral immune cells contribute to Alzheimer's disease (AD) neuropathogenesis. Among these, mast cells are known for their functions in allergic reactions and neuroinflammation; however, little is known about their role in AD. Here, we crossed 5XFAD mice with mast cell-deficient strains and observed the effects on AD-related neuropathology and cognitive impairment. We found that mast cell depletion improved contextual fear conditioning in 5XFAD mice without affecting cued fear conditioning, anxiety-like behavior, or amyloid burden. Furthermore, mast cell depl…

Social avoidance and testosterone enhanced exposure efficacy in women with social anxiety disorder: A pilot investigation.

Social avoidance has been associated with more persistent social anxiety disorder (SAD) symptoms and low testosterone levels in individuals with SAD. We tested whether pre-treatment avoidance tendencies moderate the efficacy of testosterone-augmented exposure therapy. Fifty-five females with SAD received two exposure sessions during which fear levels were assessed. Session 1 was augmented with testosterone (0.50 mg) or placebo. Avoidance tendencies and symptom severity were assessed pre- and post-exposure. Participants showed stronger avoidance for social versus non-social stimuli and this ten…
