BACKGROUND: Carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater is uncommon. This study aimed to clarify predictors of survival for ampullary adenocarcinoma and to identify characteristics of its two major pathological subtypes.
METHODS: Medical records were reviewed for 86 patients who underwent curative resection for ampullary adenocarcinoma between 2000 and 2012 at 12 principal hospitals in Kagawa, Japan.

PURPOSE: Mucins are members of the glycoprotein family expressed in benign and malignant epithelial cells. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationships between the expression of mucins in breast ductal carcinoma and clinicopathologic parameters.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are thought to play an essential role in cancer initiation and development. However, little research has been done to evaluate the role of CAFs in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) development. To address this issue, ninety-one specimens were immunostained with α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and fibroblast activation protein (FAP) antibodies to quantify CAFs, and antibodies D2-40 and CD34 to evaluate the lymphatic vessel density (LVD) and microvessel density (MVD) of the lesions. We found there were no α-SMA or FAP positive fibroblasts in normal ovary tissues.

We report an autopsy case of a tumor with widespread metastases 29 years after initial surgery.
