Anxiety symptoms in schizophrenia spectrum disorders: associations with social function, positive and negative symptoms, hope and trauma history.

OBJECTIVE: Anxiety is commonly observed in schizophrenia, but its relationship with other features of illness is unclear. METHOD: We examined correlations between measures of anxiety, positive and negative symptoms, hope, psychosocial function and trauma history among 128 participants with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. Cluster analyses were conducted to determine whether we could detect a subgroup with severe anxiety. RESULTS: Higher levels of anxiety were associated with greater hallucinations, withdrawal, depression, hopelessness, better insight and poorer function. Cluster an

The construct validity of screening questions for kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, depression, and stress in patients with (sub-)acute non-traumatic neck pain.

BACKGROUND: Neck pain is common and may transition from acute to chronic, often influenced by psychological factors like kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, depression, and stress. Early screening for these factors in patients with (sub-)acute neck pain is crucial to prevent chronicity. OBJECTIVES: To examine the construct validity and internal consistency of screening questions for kinesiophobia, pain catastrophizing, depression, and stress in Dutch patients with (sub-)acute, non-traumatic neck pain. DESIGN: Cross sectional study. METHOD: Hypotheses were formulated for convergent and dive

Combining anterolateral ligament with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction improves kinesiophobia and pivot shift reducing reoperation rate when stable lateral meniscal tears are left in situ.

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES: Graft failure and secondary meniscal tears remain significant concerns following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Lateral extra-articular procedures, including anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction, have demonstrated efficacy in reducing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft failure and meniscal repair rates. However, their impact on untreated stable meniscal tears remains unclear. This study aimed to compare clinical outcomes and reoperation rates between ACLR with and without ALL reconstruction in patients with untreated stable lateral menisca

A Model of Body Perception Disturbances in Chronic Limb Pain: The Predictive Role of Kinesiophobia, Depersonalization and Symptom Severity.

BACKGROUND: Body Perception Disturbances (BPD) are common in chronic limb pain conditions characterised by negative feelings toward the limb and a reduced sense of agency. Prior research has focused on isolated associations between psychological factors, pain hypersensitivity and BPD. Therefore, an integrated examination of the interconnections between these variables within a theory-driven model is necessary. METHODS: The model hypothesises that pain hypersensitivity (hyperalgesia, allodynia), directly linked with BPD (assessed by the Bath-BPD and Neurobehavioral questionnaires) or indirectl

Kinesiophobia, but not strength is associated with altered movement in women with patellofemoral pain.

BACKGROUND: Evidence indicates the presence of both kinesiophobia and knee extension strength deficits in women with patellofemoral pain (PFP). Both impairments may contribute to apparent compensatory gait patterns including reduced cadence and peak knee flexion during stair negotiation. RESEARCH QUESTION: Is kinesiophobia or knee extension strength associated with movement pattern in women with patellofemoral pain? METHODS: Forty women with PFP were assessed with three-dimensional kinematic analyses during stair descent; isokinetic dynamometry of the knee extensors (isometric, concentric an

Assessment of trypophobia and an analysis of its visual precipitation.

We developed and validated a symptom scale that can be used to identify "trypophobia", in which individuals experience aversion induced by images of clusters of circular objects. The trypophobia questionnaire (TQ) was based on reports of various symptom types, but it nevertheless demonstrated a single construct, with high internal consistency and test-retest reliability. The TQ scores predicted discomfort from trypophobic images, but not neutral or unpleasant images, and did not correlate with anxiety. Using image filtering, we also reduced the excess energy at midrange spatial frequencies ass
