Nonoperative treatment of simple meconium ileus: a survey of the Society for Pediatric Radiology.

To determine the practice pattern regarding nonoperative treatment of simple meconium ileus, a survey was sent to directors of 66 pediatric radiology departments in the USA and Canada. Thirty-nine responses were received reporting 1,236 patients. A wide variation of enema techniques and contrast media were used. While the success rate did not correlate with osmolality, mode of administration, catheter size, or perforation rate, there was a significantly higher overall success rate with the use of Gastrografin versus non-Gastrografin (p < 0.00076) and the use of additives such as Tween-80 and M

Treatment orientation and associated characteristics of North American academic psychiatrists.

We present data showing the degree to which a "biological-psychotherapeutic" division persists in American psychiatry, and how psychiatrists' treatment orientation is associated with personal and professional characteristics. Almost two thirds of academic psychiatrists who responded to our survey (N = 435) could be classified as either biological (27%) or psychotherapeutic (37%) in orientation, according to the proportion of their caseload to which they provided psychotherapy (< or = 25% vs. > 75%). There appears to have been an increase over the last 35 years in the proportion of psychiatrist

Patterns of prescription stimulant initiation before and during the COVID-19 pandemic: a population-based time-series analysis.

BACKGROUND: Some jurisdictions reported increased stimulant prescribing during the COVID-19 pandemic. We sought to examine patterns of stimulants dispensed to adults in Ontario and characterize adults who initiated such therapy before and during the pandemic. METHODS: We used population health administrative data to identify monthly rates of incident stimulant dispensations to adults in Ontario, Canada, between January 2016 and June 2024. We conducted an interrupted time-series analysis using piecewise regression to assess the immediate and sustained impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stimula

Policy and Payment Factors Influencing Adoption of Low-Barrier Buprenorphine Treatment.

IMPORTANCE: Treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) with buprenorphine reduces overdose and all-cause mortality, yet access and retention remain limited. Much of the literature describing barriers to buprenorphine access and retention has focused on practitioner-level or patient-level barriers, but less is known about how potential policy and payment levers may influence prescribing behaviors and treatment practices from the practitioner perspective. OBJECTIVE: To explore perspectives among OUD treatment program clinicians and staff about how broader policy and payment structures influence ado

Prescriber's Preferences for Digital Health Applications in Mental Health Care: Cross-Sectional Best-Worst Scaling Study of General Practitioners and Psychotherapists in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Mental disorders affect nearly one-third of adults in Germany, with a 12-month prevalence of approximately 28%. Following Germany's 2019 Digital Care Act, digital health applications (Digitale Gesundheitsanwendungen [DiGA]) became reimbursable interventions by the statutory health insurance for mental health conditions. However, adoption remains uneven. General practitioners (GPs) issue most mental health DiGA prescriptions, while psychotherapists or psychiatrists prescribe far fewer, even though most DiGA target mental health. Existing studies imply profession-specific barriers bu

Clinician Perspectives on Prescribing Restrictions and Opioid Pain Management in Australian Podiatric Practice: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Australian-endorsed general podiatrists and podiatric surgeons (EGPs and EPSs, respectively) operate under a fixed prescribing formulary, the National Podiatry Scheduled Medicines List (NPSML), that restricts access to opioid analgesics including tramadol and tapentadol, despite emerging evidence questioning the efficacy of available alternatives such as codeine. The impact of these restrictions on clinical practice has not been qualitatively examined. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive study using semi-structured interviews was conducted with thirty-one clinicians: ten pharmacist

Trends in drug use and prescription patterns for Crohn's disease patients in China, 2018-2022.

BACKGROUND: Crohn’s disease (CD) is an inflammatory bowel disease that requires medical treatment. The use of medications to treat CD is increasing worldwide, coinciding with the rising prevalence of the disease. However, research on the use of medications for CD has mostly focused on developed countries, and little research has been done on the status and trends in China. Thus, we conducted a nationwide study to ascertain the current status of treatment for CD patients in Chinese healthcare institutions. METHODS: Data on inpatient prescriptions for CD were obtained from the Hospital Prescript

Challenges in diagnosing and monitoring radiographic and non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis in daily clinical practice.

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES: Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a heterogeneous disease with variable clinical features changing over the disease course, making diagnosis and monitoring challenging. Large progress has been made in classification development, imaging, disease-activity assessment. However, there is limited insight in how these developments are addressed in daily clinical practice. Therefore, our study aim was to gain better insight into diagnosis, monitoring and treatment and to explore if non-radiographic (nr-)axSpA is addressed differently from radiographic (r-)axSpA. METHODS: A
