Mirizzi Syndrome: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Mirizzi syndrome (MS) is a rare complication of chronic gallstones. Mirizzi syndrome is characterized by a set of symptoms that results from obstruction of the common hepatic or common bile duct (CBD). This may be due to extrinsic compression from an impacted gallstone in the gallbladder neck or cystic duct because of inflammatory changes secondary to chronic gallstone cholecystitis. We present a case of an 86-year-old patient with chronic gallstones who presented with abdominal pain and jaundice. The patient was diagnosed with MS type V after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ER

Diagnosis and treatment of unusual multiorgan Echinococcus hydatid cysts.

BACKGROUND: Echinococcosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus. Usually, the liver is the most affected organ, accounting for approximately 70% to 85% of cases. The lungs represent 20% of the cases. Fewer than 10% are found in other sites, including the bone, brain, spleen, and kidneys. CASE PRESENTATION: A young man was referred to a local hospital for dull pain in the right flank, fever, and mild cough. Computed tomography showed 2 large cysts: the first involved the left lung and measured 130 × 90.5 × 120 mm, whereas the second cyst was located in the right kidney and m

Large dentigerous cyst associated with the maxillary impacted supernumerary teeth: A rare occurrence and literature review.

Dentigerous cysts are common odontogenic cysts of the jaw but are rarely associated with supernumerary teeth. Few cases of large dentigerous cysts associated with anterior maxillary supernumerary teeth have been reported. The English literature has documented only four cases of dentigerous cysts>40 mm in diameter associated with supernumerary teeth. A 47-year-old man was referred to our hospital, complaining of minor pain in the maxillary gingiva. Computed tomography revealed a well-defined oval unilocular radiolucent lesion (50×45×35 mm) in the right maxilla, including two impacted supernumer

A case of venous stasis colitis possibly caused by eplerenone.

A 50-year-old man was referred to our hospital for colitis with abdominal pain and diarrhea that had persisted for more than 8 months. 9 months earlier, he had been treated for fulminant eosinophilic myocarditis. During steroid therapy, ulceration appeared in the esophagus, stomach and large intestine. The biopsy results showed cytomegalovirus (CMV) inclusion bodies, and the patient was diagnosed with CMV gastrocolitis and treated with ganciclovir. Colonoscopy 7 months earlier revealed ischemia-like segmental colitis 10 cm in length in the hepatic flexure without evidence of CMV infection. Col

Asymptomatic cardiac tumour with premature ventricular contraction in an athlete: case report.

Cardiac fibromas are the second most common benign primary tumour of the heart in the children; the clinical features include chest pain, arrhythmia, low cardiac output due to outflow tract obstruction, and sudden cardiac death. Sports are associated with an increased risk for sudden death in athletes who are affected by cardiovascular conditions predisposing to life-threatening arrhythmias. We present a case report of 10-year-old asymptomatic boy who was referred to the paediatric cardiology department by his general practitioner for cardiac examination before participation in competitive spo

Spindle Cell Sarcoma (SCS); a case of primary leiomyosarcoma (LMS) of the sigmoid colon presented as intestinal obstruction.

Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a common form of soft tissue sarcoma. Primary colonic LMS is an extremely rare entity, comprising 1-2% of gastrointestinal malignancies. Primary mesenchymal sarcomas of the gastrointestinal system are rare and constitute just 0.1-3% of all gastrointestinal tumours. LMS is the most common variant of such tumours and represents just 0.12% of colorectal malignancies. We present a case of a 65-year-old female, who presented to the emergency department with 3 days history of obstipation and generalized abdominal pain. Radiology (X-ray and ultrasound) indicated a large pelvic

Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is generally characterized by chief complaints such as abdominal mass and abdominal pain. We report a case of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma diagnosed as an inguinal mass. A 69-year-old man was referred to our hospital complaining of abdominal distension and swelling in the right inguinal region. Abdominal/pelvic contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a 22 cm tumor from the right inguinal canal to the peritoneal cavity and a large amount of ascites. Because imaging analyses revealed no metastasis, we planned tumor resection. We resected the tumor wi

Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma Involving the Kidney and Renal Pelvis.

Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas are a distinctive group of B-cell lymphomas. These lymphomas arise from various anatomic sites and are mainly seen in the gastrointestinal tract, but the primary involvement of the kidney is extremely rare. We report a case of a MALT lymphoma involving the kidney and the renal pelvis. A 56-year-old man presented with a history of hematuria and left flank pain. A computed tomography scan showed a marked tissue densification in the renal sinus, suggesting marked thickening of the urothelium, conditioning deformity of the renal pelvis and calyces

Non-hormonal Clitoromegaly due to Clitoral Priapism Caused by Appendicitis/Appendectomy.

Clitoromegaly usually develops due to hyperandrogenism. There are a few cases of clitoromegaly described without clinical and biochemical hyperandrogenism. Clitoromegaly due to clitoral priapism and clitoral priapism after appendectomy have not been reported previously. A 7-year-old girl was referred for enlargement of the clitoris. She reported having a mild, pulsating clitoral pain starting three days after an appendectomy operation. Subsequently, painful swelling and an increase in the size of the clitoris was observed. Her growth and physical examination were otherwise normal. Causes of th
