In this paper, we review the path taken by signals originating from the short wavelength sensitive cones (S-cones) in Old World and New World primates. Two types of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) carrying S-cone signals (blue-On and blue-Off cells) project to the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (dLGN) in the thalamus. In all primates, these S-cone signals are relayed through the 'dust-like' (konis in classical Greek) dLGN cells. We report a case of multiple cerebral infarctions as the first symptom of hypereosinophilia with Clonorchis sinensis infestation. The patient showed hypereosinophilia and elevated cardiac enzyme, and the egg test of C. sinensis was positive. CT scans of the chest and the abdomen revealed eosinophilic infiltration in both lung and liver. Over a period of six weeks after praziquantel medication, he recovered. C. sinensis infestation which is endemic in East Asian countries should be considered as a cause of multiple microembolic stroke associated with idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: Axon injury is a key contributor to the progression of disability in multiple sclerosis (MS). Systemic infections, which frequently precede relapses in MS, have been linked to clinical progression in Alzheimer's disease. There is evidence of a role for the innate immune system in MS lesions, as axonal injury is associated with macrophage activation.
